Experience at the University of Liège, Belgium by Alexa
How is the University of Liège in general?
As far as the level of education is concerned, it is very high and the teachers do not generally make it easy for you. For administrative matters, such as receiving documents or asking for documents etc... it's a mess! Administratively, l'ULG is very behind its neighbours who are much more organized and efficient . Otherwise, the atmosphere among students is relatively faithful to the Liège stereotype. They may not be good at organisation and efficiency but their smiles and their sympathy make up for it and fortunately it calms you down.
What are the facilities like?
In general old at Sart-Tilman (even in ruins sometimes) and very modern in the HEC buildings .
And the teachers?
They are not all very cooperative but always respond to our questions even if they look like they don't want to. There is not a lot of contact with lecturers who give classes in big lecture theatres but if there are tutors who give classes in smaller rooms then they are very welcoming and patient with their students. Those who support the Erasmus students in their classes are generally language teachers and are very nice.
Is it easy to do well in the University of Liège?
No, it's very hard! We have to get the hang of the work method by ourselves and there is not a lot of supervision.
Does the university organize activities? If so, how are they?
Yes, there is the Unifestival at the start of the year and otherwise throughout the year there is the Liège folklore in all its splendour which will please anyone. The university itself does not organize many activities, it's the students who take the initiative to organize activities through the college; nights out, BBQs, parades... we have a lot of fun at ULG.
Do you think the classes are good?
Yes, it seems consistent despite the difficulty.
Anything else you'd like to share?
There is so much that I don't know where to begin... one thing is sure with the students of Liège... you are sure to have many stories to tell when you go home!
