Experience in University of Jordan, Jordan by zeena
Generally, what is University of Jordan like?
The University of Jordan is considered to be the best and the largest university in Jordan. It was built in 1962 therefore the buildings are a bit old but some of the collages are newly established like the Faculty of Information Technology and the Faculty of Art and Design.
It has a large number of students (around 40000 students of both undergraduate and postgraduate students).
The university offers many scholarships to Europe and the Far East as well as receiving a good number of foreign students interested in learning the Arabic language.
What are the facilities like?
there are many facilities that will satisfy the various interests of the students. There is a gymnasium, stadium, gallery, musical instruments classes, restaurants and kiosks, laboratories with wi-fi, stationary, bookshops..etc
What are the tutors like?
The academic staff is quite professional with a long teaching experience; some of them follow the traditional methods of teaching but others tend to be more creative and modern,
The majority of the tutors are Jordanians with a few number of Arabs. In the faculty of foreign languages you will find some native speakers of Italian, Spanish, Korean, Turkish and Russian.
Almost all of the tutors have obtained a doctorate degree and some of them only completed their master's.
Are the lessons easy in University of Jordan?
Some subjects are easy and others are more difficult, there is no specific rule for lessons. However, everything is understandable if you concentrate during lectures, prepare and study regularly. There is a huge library that includes a great amount of books. You can borrow any book you want and there is a space to study individualy and in groups. The atmosphere is quiet and suitable for studying.
Does the University organize activities; what are they like?
In fact, there are no activities that include each and every faculty. There are activities for faculties separately.
Among these activities, picnics, excursions, public services including painting the streets, schools, etc and planting trees...
also, they arrange competitions for cooking, singing, acting, drawing.
I should mention that there is an open day for each faculty and a scientific day where students meet their professors to discuss the difficulties they are facing and if they have any suggestions.
Do you think the teaching is of a high quality?
Yes, of course. As I have already mentioned above, the professors are pretty much qualified, well-experienced and professional.
Are there any stories you can share?
I would like to say that studying at the university of Jordan was the best thing that has ever happened to me. It is the best place for good education and having fun as well. I also met many people of different backgrounds and cultures and we became friends. I truly miss my days at this university and wish I could relive that experience.
P.s I have attached some pictures of the university... Enjoy :)
