What about a job?

Norway is an expensive country compared to the Netherlands and compared to other countries in general. So when going on Exchange to Norway, you may want to consider getting a job and start saving before you leave. However, I personally had a problem if I had gotten a job in Norway. Since you are in Norway for only half a year, you will not get a Norwegian number. Therefore, you are not able to get a Norwegian health insurance, and so on you are not allowed to work in Norway. At least, according to my dutch health insurance I wasn't. Therefore, I saved a lot of money before going to Norway and I got the Erasmus scholarship ofcourse. But a job is not everything, there are also a lot of volunteering options in Alta.

City Scene//Studenthuset

Studenthuset City Scene is the student bar and cafe. A place to play games, eat breakfast, lunch or dinner, drink some coffee with friends, enjoy drinks during parties, or go to the festivals and concert. They offer volunteer jobs each semester. In the bar, the garderobe, as a bouncer, in the PR and media team, and as stage builder. You will not get paid for these jobs, however, this is a great way to a) practice your Norwegian b) get to know more people c) you get employee discounts on almost everything, from festivals to food and drinks and d) the volunteer parties, with free drinks and food (truly amazing crazy parties). Even if you have to work during very cool events like the annual Halloween party, don't worry, you may dress up as well! So why not become a volunteer? It is really rewarding and will benefit you in a lot of ways.
