Erasmus Experience in Udine, Italy by salah
Why did you choose to go to Udine, Italy?
I have my family living in Udine (they are Italians).
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I didn’t got any, I was paying the fee of my studies every semester it’s costs depending on the rate. Of the study it self.
What is the student lifestyle like in Udine?
You will not be able to make friends with locals because they won’t used on you people in the North of Italy are difficult to make friends with.. I got only 2 friends and I found the students are not into going out much once in 3 months. So I used to get bored all the time and do trips alone mostly.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Udine to other students?
It’s depends if you are fluent in italian yes. Almost all the corses are in Italian.
I recommend the cities that are in the centre like Rome, or go to the South
The locals are more active with foreigners and they are more open minded. If like to save money go to the South like Napoli.
If you like the Italian culture you better go to the center like Rome or Florence. Or the south.. North you go the dull life you find.
What is the food like?
Food is crazy.
As half Italian, I love the food the sweets, I like to plant fruits and vegetables.. it’s so good.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Udine?
I have my own house in Udine.
How much does it cost to live in Udine?
It depends on the person..
The North of Italy is a bit more expensive than the South.. specially in big city like Rome, Milan.
Udine is not very expensive but as I wrote it depends where do your shopping like Eurospin is economic.
Lidl market is a German market is mid high for the prices, the products are so good.
Despar or coop they are expensive.
I recommend that you look to place in the city like in rizzi area or city center if you were an economics student.
You can do a subscription for the bus SAF for students visit SAF office near the train station.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
For students whom don’t speak Italian they can try CLAV it’s funded by the university of Udine they will provide and exam for your Italian level and then depending on the results you will know your level in Italian then you can follow corses for Italian language for free just prove that you are student. They have a big school in the city center just for the language.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Udine?
Piazza San Giacomo. For instance the bars are so nice..
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Udine?
Cook at home the restaurants are expensive...!
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Castello di Udine.
Piazza San Giacomo.
There are too many but you can see everything in 1 day.
Walking in the city centre is so nice.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Udine in the future?
Yes, if you have (partner) be together.. it’s nicer..
