Experience in University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom by Alexandra

Generally, what is University of Aberdeen like?

Well, I might be a little biased, but I honestly thing that the University of Aberdeen is the best choice I could have made. The quality of teaching is very high, the professors and staff members are extremely nice and will go out of their ways to help you and the building and main campus look like you accidentally stumbled into Harry Potter movie.

What are the facilities like?

All the facilities of the university are modern and well-equipped. The university just recently invested into a brand new university library (it opened last year) with over 1,200 study spaces from traditional silent study rooms to interactive areas (Co-Labs) for collaborative projects, supported by information technology. The entire building has comprehensive wireless network coverage, and there are also sockets to plug in your own laptop throughout. It was designed after the insides of the Sydney Opera and its listed as one of the top 10 university libraries in the world.

What are the tutors like?

The tutors are generally very strict (which is a good thing), they make sure the students show up on time and well prepared. They make sure to be clear and precise when they explain and are very helpful if you do not understand something.

Are the lessons easy in University of Aberdeen?

Definitely not easy, but obviously if you dedicate time to study for them, they are easy to pass. I can only offer an opinion about my degree though (Economics and Business) and my classes were difficult the first year, but I have spent a lot of time studying for them and I did very good on all of them. The professors often bring in guest speakers for the lectures and they always make sure to prepare the lectures well.

Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?

The university organizes so many activities and events, it is hard to pic just few. For first, there is more than 40 clubs and societies in our university, composed of students with a similar interests or background (we have MUN, European society, International society, Politics& IR society, but many funny ones too like Coctail society or Malt whisky society). The university also organized rallies, marathons, charity events and many many other activities.

Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?

I really do so, the Uni is on the list of 100 best universities in the world.

Are there any stories you can share?

I really can't think of one right now. I just really would like to say that moving to Aberdeen was a decision I will never regret. The University really offers everything there is to taste about student life. The life in the student residences for the first year (or if you are an Erasmus person) is seriously unforgettable and stories from the dorms will stay with you forever. Aberdeen is a city big enough to keep you entertained but not too big so you'd get lost or anything. I really would recommend everyone to come and don't be put off by the weather. Apparently Aberdeen is the sunniest city in the united kingdom. :)
