Mahdia has less than 80, 000 inhabitants, it is rich in traditional products and seaview. Also it is known as a tranquil, uncrowded, cheap and nice city.

Here I am going to show some of the traditional products that you are going to find in the old city (center of Mahdia) if you decide to spend some days there, such as the traditional clothes and food of Mahdia.

I guess also that you are going to enjoy discovering new customs and traditions.

History

Its strategic location made it a famous and important city in the Mediterranean Sea during the 16th century.

Its first three names are Jemma, Aphrodisium and Cap Africa.

It had a very big role in the Tunisian economical and political history. It was founded by phoenician in 916. Its constriction continued to five years.

After 1086 it has started to be a Roman city.

The name of Mahdia is derived from the name of the first Fatimid caliph, " Ubayd Allah al-Mahdi", who built it.

Entertainment and transport

Transport

It is very easy to reach Mahdia wherever you are in Tunisia, Algeria, Libya or Europe :

  • It takes 45 minutes to get there from Habib Bourguiba International Airport (Monastir).
  • It takes 2 hours and half far from Tunis the capital of Tunisia.
  • And it takes 1 hour and a half far from Enfidha Hammamet International Airport.

During your stay you are going to meet many people from different places and you will never forget the genial people living there like me.

Entertainment

First of all I want to say that Mahdia is a clean city and you are going to discover that since the first visit to its beach, where you can find a lot of new hotels as :

  • Iberostar Royal El Mansour (five stars).
  • LTI Mahdia Beach (four stars).
  • Hotel Club Thapsus (four stars).
  • Mahdia Palace (five stars).

In the photos you can see how these hotels look. Moreover, prices are not very expensive because generally Mahdia is cheaper than other cities in Tunisia.

Never forgot to enjoy the sunset and the sunrise on the beach because at these moments you are going to forget every thing about stress and sorrow.

What make Mahdia a good destination is that it fits for couples, families, friends, students, workers, rich, poor...
