What is it like to live in Tulsa? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

First off, a lot of culture. We've got the Native Americans & the beautiful art they've given us & the big oil thing that happened when Tulsans went crazy with money building fantastic art deco buildings that grace the downtown streets. Growing up in Tulsa I was taught general politeness & possibly even going out of your way to help others. Moving away for a couple years & returning paints a new picture of the city. Though I still long to be somewhere else, Tulsa grew & developed very quickly. After only 2 years of being away, the night life, local restaurants & activity rockets, & as I type this, is still advancing. If you, along with every other human I've met all around the world, plan on going on a USA Road Trip, Tulsa is definitely a place you cannot miss.
And a lot of upcoming art & music. I know so many talented artists and there's live music & art shows almost every night (every weekend for sure)
AND! Tulsa is FINALLY getting craft beer. After living in San Diego that is known for their amazing beer bars & micro breweries Tulsa jumps on the wagon.

What is the student lifestyle like in Tulsa?

Tulsa University is actually a very well known around the world for its prestigious law & nursing programs. Students come from all over the states & globe to attend. As for sports, everyone is spirited but TU kind of lacks in that department.

How much does it cost to live in Tulsa?

Living in many cities I've learned Tulsa is the most 'bang for your buck'
Goddamn this city is cheap. Moving back from San Diego, I lived like a fucking queen. Now I'm in Paris, & yet again, (and even more so than in SoCal) am a poor kid.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Tulsa? Is there any advice you can give?

Craigslist is a good bet. Tulsa is a safe city. It's big enough you never have to pass by the side of town you want to avoid. Go on craigslist, meet them in person, trust your intuition. And I'm sure realtors, as everything else there, are inexpensive.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

If Oklahoma does anything, they eat. A ton of Mexican & Italian restaurants. I love and miss the tex mex with queso on everything you order. Also, burger joints of course. A few exceptional ones. I'm a vegetarian & there is nothing I like more than a delicious black bean burger.

What places would you recommend visiting in Tulsa?

For mexican: El Tequila, Elote & El Guapo. Those will not disappoint. Plenty! Of other hole in the walls & yummy food trucks, as well.
Fat Guys for burgers & fries.
There's a few parks downtown that are lovely & always have something going on. Gutherie Green if you want to be around people & John Hope Franklin just a block away, if you want to be alone. (I like that one, more)
Tulsa fucking loves coffee shops. A million starbucks to choose from if you like consistency & bad espresso (I worked at Bux & love it still) But a nice strong cup of joe whether french press, cold brew, pour over Tulsa has it all for the reading/sketching/sitting/no shoes wearing kind of kids.

Is it good to eat out in Tulsa? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I told you. But another place, well the only place, to get a really great beer (draught, bottle or can) is McNellies. I worked there & its a great atmosphere for families & drunkies.
Over 300 beers, 60 on tap, you will find one you love. Even if you're a bitch & "don't like beer"
Paris is killing me on their little to none beer selection.
Anyway

Is the nightlife good in Tulsa? Where is good to go?

There's about a group of 40 or 50 humans, all age, that go out almost every night. So if you're one of those, you will find your group. Which is my group. I mean, not every night but I certainly love a great pint of beer. Arnies, Fassler Hall, McNellies (again) Soundpony, Mercury, Cazs, the divey bars. Or Valkyerie, Vintage 1740 (wine bar), Mayo rooftop bar & Hodges Bend for something more sophisticated.

What advice would you give future students headed to Tulsa?

It gets too hot and too cold. When it's 'just right' get outside.
