My Erasmus in Łódź, Poland

Hello everybody,

As I just finished my erasmus in Łódź, I would like to share my experience, to make it easier for you to choose/think about this city :)

BRRRHHH, What to start with?

First of all, the university was quite good. The Students assistance office that helps the Erasmus people is good organised with nice people working in <3 . If you had any problem they could solve it asap. The faculty that I was studying in was IFE (International Faculty of Engineering), it's a building for courses in english and most of the management/economics classes are there. The campus of the uni is really big with many buildings (you need a map for sure). The teachers were quite good, we had some boring ones and some really interesting ones. As a management student, I found it really easy to handle my classes and travel/party at the same time. But it depends on the faculty that you are... for example, one of my friends didn't had time to travel a lot or to party in biotechnology faculty because of many tests and reports.

Personally, I passed all my exams and i studied only on January.

What's more, living in Łódź

Living in Łódź is quite nice. Is not a big city which means that you are united with the rest of erasmus and you are all together whatever you do. Łódź has some great shopping areas ( street Piotrkowska and Manufaktura) with cafes, bars, clubs, restaurants, shops etc... Actually Piotrkowska street is the main/central street of Łódź and you can find anything there. Łódź is a city that is in the heart of Poland, exact in the center of Poland, so you can travel a lot! It's almost one hour away from Warsaw and you can use train or polshkibus to go there (very cheap prices ).In summer-autumn you can rent bikes via nextbike app and its a really nice way to discover the city and do crazy stuff with your friends (drunk and riding can be bad btw)!

What are my favorite places?

In Piotrkowska, there is the OFF, it's a block of buildings with shops, cafes and a club. I love all the cafes there with good food. Also there is a barbershop with really nice decor.

For restaurants, manekin is the best option -best pancakes i ever tasted in my life!

Also good restaurants: Laxmi ( Indian restaurant), Zahir kebab, Istanbul Kebab, Ato sushi.

For good coffee and studying, I found a place called Qubek cafe near to TUL (Łódź University of Technology) and a new cafe in Sukcesja (the mall near to the university).

Where to live?

I was living in the dorms of TUL, I was in dorm 8 ( best dorm-closest dorm to IFE)!

The rent was almost 100 euros /month /person. I had a double room with my friend and it was quite spacious with beds, chairs, wardrobe, drawers, tables, and a little kitchenette for preparing the food. We had a common kitchen for the whole floor and a shared bathroom with 6 more people (3 more rooms) mixed(Yeah, sometimes it was getting dirty.. )! We had perfect heat and hot water 24/7! Our neighbors were polish and didn't talk a lot of english (yes, another problem living in Łódź -. -). The dorm had a gym and pool room, Tv room and party room(50 zl rent for one night). The reception ladies didn't talk any english but the administration did a little bit.

In this dorm, i had great experiences, a lot of parties, a lot of friends, many crazy things happened there!

Other dorms are also good, for example dorm 7, but it has smaller rooms with double beds mostly. Dorms 3/4/5 quite good and new! Dorm 9....not easy to get in if youre not living inside. The reception ladies know every resident byheart and they are more strict.

I really loved this experience and I hope I will go back one day. Don't hesitate to go there even if the city is not famous and not that big! YOU ARE GONNA LOVE IT.

For any other info that I forgot to provide (possible af), don't hesitate to contact me on social medias blah blah blah.

Nazdrowie

P. S. Łódź is one of the cheapest cities in Poland....Convincing enough?; )
