Erasmus Experience in Torun, Poland by Luca
Why did you choose to go to Torun, Poland?
To improve my English but in a cheap country.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I spent there 10 months receiving about 500per month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Torun?
Terrific! Party, drinking, travelling, meeting new friends..
Would you recommend the city and the University of Torun to other students?
Of course! It's the best place in the world! The best people I've ever met!
What is the food like?
Well.. I'm Italian so I prefer my food.. anyway. It's the typical northern food, a bit heavy (meat, potatoes, cabbage and soups) but food it's not important. You can cook your own food if you don't like the Polish one.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Torun?
Not at all... University gave me a single room in the dormitory... and rent was very cheap (about 120€ including the bills).
How much does it cost to live in Torun?
It is very cheap! if you are careful you can live and have fun with just 300€ per month... it is enough for a student life.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?
Polish language is so difficult, especially for student that speak a latin language. Anyway, University of Torun organizes a lot of courses of Polish language that are very well organized... Moreover, almost everybody speaks English there and classes are in English too... so no problem for that.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Torun from your city?
I live in Sardinia so I used to take a plane from Cagliari to Cracow and then by train... trains in Poland are very cheap.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Torun?
NRD if you like tecno music. Kadr if you like to sit talk and meet new people. Kotlownia if you like crazy and hot girls... - closed Everywhere if you like to drink.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Torun?
Manekin.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
the city center is UNESCO heritage.
Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Torun?
Don't drink alcohol in the streets or at least don't let the cops see you if you do
Don't care if some big skin head guy can be a bit aggressive at you, it can happen sometimes, but don't worry - most of people in Torun are very nice and they will be willing to help and protect you from them. Anyway, just don't answer to any provocation, if you don't care nobody is gonna hurt you...
