Discover the beauty of Timisoara
I don't know what you think when you think about Romania but for me this country is associated with a lot of green places, mountains, 4 beautiful seasons, amazing landscapes and a lot of things you can do. From traveling to living in this country. Today I would like to share with you some of my experiences that I had in a beautiful city located in the west area of Romania. This city attracted me through everything she has - from people to architecture, streets, places, opportunities and lifestyle. This city, from my point of view, is very well organized and has a great development potential. A city worth visiting. I am talking about Timisoara - a gorgeous city where is something to do for everyone.
Why did you choose to go to Timisoara, Romania?
From that moment when I moved to Timisoara I fell in love with this amazing city and I recommend to everyone once in life to visit and stay for a few days in this city. It is worth your money and time. Timisoara is very gorgeous city, you will find out this when you will arrive there. Whether you like art, cycle, or walk in the park or along to the beautiful Bega river or maybe you are a foodie - there is something to do for everyone! You will be impressed as well by great combination of traditional and modern culture, arhitecture and so on. Pack your things and go to Timisoara!
How did you find your accommodation?
You can find easy your accommodation if you are specialized in finding cheap and good accommodation. Timisoara is quite cheap if you want to rent a entire apartment via Airbnb or if you want to stay in a hostel you should search for it on hostelworld. I recommend first of all to search a couch on couchsurfing and in this way you will have the opportunity to stay with locals, to ask them some sugestions and tips, to share good stories, to try traditional romanian food or to ask them where you can find the best places for eating traditional food and specialities. By the way, here I will share with you a couple of good options: Hostel Costel, Hotel Timisoara, Iosefin Residence, Freeborn Hostel and if you search on google you can find more accomodations. Also, I recommend to use booking.com
What are the accommodation prices like?
Usually the prices for accommodation in Timisoara starts from €10 per night. But every time is up to you because you can choose to stay with locals from couchsurfing and here you do not pay for the accommodation but sometimes is good to honor with a beer, wine or something. I said is up to you because you choose your comfort and all. If you want to stay for example in Hotel Timisoara you have to take out of your pocket more than 50 euros but if you choose to stay in Hostel Costel maybe you will pay between 15 and 20 euros or maybe less if you are traveling with a group.
Is the language easy to speak and understand?
Oh, it depends but if your mother tongue is part of the Latin language group you are more likely to understand. You just have to try. I think that romanian language is easy to learn if you are perseverent and interested about romanian cultures, traditions and language. But if you are traveler you can use simple some propositions, expresions, words to say hello or goodbye and people will apreciate you for your good intention. You must know that people from Romania are hospitable and will often help if you will ask them for helping you, so everything seems to be simple. One important thing is that we utter the words exactly as they are written. Try and you will find out.
Where do I recommend to go on a night out in Timisoara?
Nightlife of Timisoara, from my point of view, is not as you can find in Bucharest or Cluj but this doesn't mean you can not go out for a party, beer or just to hangout with your friends. Timisoara is very beautiful and interesting 24/24. I recommend kindly to visit and try a fair trade specialities from Reciproc Cafe, if you want to go to party maybe you should visit Aethernativ and Cuib or Scârț Loc Lejer. I really like all of them and usually I go there with my friends. Nightlife prices are quite cheap, this means you will pay for a good beer between €2 and €4, if you're hungry you will pay beetween €2 and €5. Every time it depends what you choose for drinking and eating. However, I kindly recommend to enjoy nightlife of Timisoara.
Where I recommend to go for eating.
For each of us food means something special and food practically is a vital necessity and for this reason we need to pay attention what we eat and where we go for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I must say that I am a big foodie. I like to eat and to enjoy even if I had a little piece of something. I like to cook but as well I like to eat in the restaurants, pastry and in generel I like to go there where I can find food. I pay attention every time where I go to enjoy my meal and usually I use some application like TripAdvisor or Foursquare to read reviews or to see the prices. I recommend to check a restaurant, coffe shop, bar before you go there to spend your money! Sometimes you can avoid bad experiences.
However, if you are in Timisoara for your holidays I recommend some places where you can go and enjoy your food because is very very tasty. Below you can find some places that I recommend to you and after you can check them on some applications or you can trust me.
- Reciproc café, if you want to drink a handcrafted beer or you want to try some tasty cakes.
- The sandwich factory, if you want to enjoy a tasty sandwich at a good price. Also you can customize your sandwich as you like.
- Suppa bar, if you are hungry and you want to eat a good soup.

Which good cultural sites, and not only, I recommend to visit during your stay in Timisoara
If you want to discover the architecture of Timisoara and cultural sites I recommend to rent a bike, from my point of view is the best way to discover this city. You must pay attention when you are cycling in the city center because in the central / historical area of the city you are not allowed to ride a bicycle. However, you will discover a lot of places but I recommend to see the following places:
- If you like theatre then you must visit Romanian National Opera in Timisoara, the Hungarian State Theater or the German State Theatre where you will see plays spoken in 3 languages.
- The Art Museum
- Banat Village Museum
- Museum of Banat
- Art galleries
- Bega river
- Timisoara used to be called the Little Wien because there you can find a lot of parks, I recommend to visit and enjoy them: Central Park, Roses Park, Botanic Park, Justice Park or maybe Poporului Park,

What else I recommend to do in Timisoara?
I recommend just go and discover the beauty of this city. Do not hesitate to add this city on your bucket list. However, if you like to drive is a must to go around Timisoara because you can find a lot of places that you can fall in love with. You can go outside of the city and enjoy the nature or some very beautiful places like Bigar waterfall, from my point of view is the most beautiful waterfall I ever seen in Romania. You can hike on Cheile Nerei (it is a National Park Cheile Nerei - Beusnita) where you can see Beusnita waterfall, Lacul Dracului, Bigar waterfall, Ochiul Beiului. I recommend as well go to to Baile Herculane where you can find thermal water.
