Experience in Tbilisi, Georgia by Davit
What is the student lifestyle like in Tbilisi?
It depends on the university that you study at. TSU is more associated with exams. If you want to have fun and party TSU might be a wrong place to go. It also depends on the faculty you are studying for. Students don't really travel in Tbilisi though.
How much does it cost to live in Tbilisi?
Accommodation + food + other needs would approximately cost 800 GEL per month. You can reduce this amount by a lot if you give up some benefits such as living alone, or nice flat, or nice food, etc. If you spend your money in a smart way it will go down to 400.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Tbilisi? Is there any advice you can give?
Usually you would have to deal with private sector. Hard or easy depends on the season of the year. Price changes as well. There are some individuals who can help you with accommodation. They have a long list of rental apartments. Usually when they help you find an apartment and you rent it, they charge you 20-30 GEL.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Georgian national food is little spicy. If you are a student in Tbilisi you will know what Khachapuri tastes like. It can be considered as a Georgian version of fast food. There are also several fast food places such as McDonald. My favorite dish would be Khinkali. You will definitely taste it once you are in Tbilisi
What places would you recommend visiting in Tbilisi?
There are many places that you can visit in Tbilisi. Maybe you should start by going to old part of Tbilisi. There are also some very nice restaurants by the coastline of Mtkvari (river). You will have the best view of Tbilisi from there. You will be able to find many interesting museums and places which you will like to visit
Is it good to eat out in Tbilisi? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
My favorite place in Tbilisi is Metekhis Chrdili. You will have the best view of Tbilisi, however the prices might be higher than average in Tbilisi market. You should go there after sunset.
What advice would you give future students heading to Tbilisi?
All the future students should know that foreigners in Tbilisi are highly appreciated. People love and are very polite and helpful to exchange students. Sometimes I am joking that I will always pretend like I was an exchange student from other country.
