Studying at Evex
The introduction
Hello everyone, I hope that you all are doing fine.
Now I want to tell you about this program that Evex has and it’s called something like an internship program for nurses, I mean, they train nurses and then they employ them in their clinics and that’s pretty amazing, if you ask me, because in that internship they don’t pay anything and the lectures and exams are pretty well-organised, as I’ve heard, so that it’s pretty good chance and opportunity for every nurse or even a student to be part of such program and not pay anything at all and they get this chance of doing many things and working on simulating things and doing real manipulations and stuff like that and getting more qualified and stuff like that, you know. so that this opportunity is not something to be missed.
How it all started
Well, last year or even a year before that, my friend sent me this link, where there was this vacancy or something like that and you could send your application and they would contact you and you may be an intern in Evex clinic and we thought that it was a good opportunity and we sent our CVs as an application and stuff like that. A year later or so they called me and asked me if I was still interested and I said “yes” and they told me that they would contact me again and tell me when to go there or something like that. Then there was nothing for some time. Then after some time they contacted me again and told me that I should go to their headquarters and get them my CV and copy of my ID and , well, I went there, they were kind of surprised to see me, and it was like they had my name written incorrectly and they didn’t get it all at once, however, then they got me filled out some application and they told me, that they would call me to inform me about the next steps. Then I left the building and waited for their call.
The call was some time later in July or something, just the day before my exam in Neurology. They told me to come to a meeting on Tsereteli ave the next day. Though, I had an examination that day, I still went there, however, I couldn’t find the place, where they told me that the meeting would be held. I even called them to get the right address, however, I couldn’t find it. because then I found out, that there were two of those addresses and I was in the wrong one. I mean, there had been another place like that, Tsereteli 117. There were TBC banks on both places and when this lady told me that there was a TBC bank branch, I thought that I was in the right place, however, there was nothing like that center nearby that they told me to go in. I was there wandering around the whole one hour, it was like I didn’t have anything else to do, and finally, when it was already half an hour or even more after that time that I was supposed to be there at, it would be embarrassing to go into that meeting, moreover, I had not found the place yet, so that I decided to go home and continue my studies for the exam in Neurology. Later, I got the information, that because I didn’t go to that meeting, I wouldn’t be in that group of interns and that I would be contacted then again for the next group of interns or something like that. However, no one contacted me about that anymore for some time.
The internship
Anyways, I continued my internship at a hospital like a trainee or something like that. And that hospital is owned by Evex now, as I see. So, as I’ve mentioned above, they like to train their nurses and make them better and then sign some contracts with them. So that, they also contacted me as a trainee there and my brother, too, who kind of works there. And, well, they told us to come to a meeting at 3 o’clock the next day on Kavtaradze Diagnostic Center. Well, to be honest, I really didn’t know where this Diagnostic Center was located, however, with asking around or something like that, we could find it, I guess. That’s how people move around the cities, right?!
It was a good day, I can say, because we didn’t have to go to university, because we had this day off from it to study for our exam in surgery and we just had this plenty of time until 3 o’clock and I could study for the exam until then. It was a pretty dull day, though, if you want to know the truth, because it was raining all day long from the very morning and it was not good to go outside on your own. I mean, we have a car and we went by car to that clinic and it would be pretty bad, if I had to walk in that rain all the way from Varketili to Saburtalo, you know. though, I would take a microbus and then metro and then a bus to that Diagnostic Center, I guess, but it still would be bad because all that waiting and stuff like that. Sometimes you have to wait for the transportation pretty long time, especially when it comes to microbuses, because you don’t know when they come and go. And the buses are more efficient, because you can get to the bus station and there’s written the time of the bus coming and you know, how much time you have to wait for it, and you don’t know that about microbuses. The greatest thing in public transport is the metro, I really like it and usually, that’s my first choice of transport anytime anywhere. However, there’s some distance from my apartment to the metro station, so that I can walk from here to there or I can take a bus or take a microbus, it all depends on the time and weather and things like that. If it’s a bad weather, then the microbus is pretty good, however, sometimes you just have to wait for it for a long time and while you don’t really know when it’s going to come, you just can’t really know, when to come out of the apartment to catch it.
Anyways, the weather was pretty bad, however, we went there by car and it was not that bad in all, if you want to know the truth. It took us something about 40 minutes I guess, to get to the Kavtaradze street and then we didn’t know where exactly this clinic was and we had to call the Evex lady and ask her the exact location, she said that it was the formal “Lechkombinati” building, like we knew which one it was! However, then we asked some guy nearby and he said that that big white building was what we were looking for. By that time, it was already 3 o’clock and a little more, I guess. We didn’t really find any parking nearby that building, so that we had to go on a circle and then find a parking space across the street. Hopefully, there was this one parking space just across the street and we parked there and crossed the road and got into the clinic. Then we had to find that conference room, which was at the left end of the first floor, I guess. And we had to ask some people where it was and finally we got in that conference room, where the presentation or something like that was already started, however, as I guessed, it had not been started long time ago, so that we weren’t very late. There was this girl going up and down and asking people their names and she had this list where those names were written and we had so sign them so that they would know, that we were attending the meeting.
There was this guy, who was talking when we got in. he was the head of this training program, I guess, and he was talking about the program and what was the aim of it and why they were doing it and what would people learn during the internship program and how important the nurses are and stuff like that. He did talk much, I mean, it was something like 4 o’clock when he told us that they would gives us the tests, which we would write and that’s how they would understand what we knew and then after our training ended, they would compare those tests to those ones that we would write after the finishing of that training program. And this training program would last for about 6 to 8 months and it’s not a short period of time, if you ask me. And here I thought, that I wouldn’t be that busy this time. Well, they said, that the lectures for this training program would last 2 hours each day and they would be 3 times a week, so that it’s not something that is not time consuming, I mean, you have to attend the lectures and also study for them and that’s not very easy for students, who have other things to study, too, and some of us have other things to do , for example, I go to German lessons and I also go to the gym and also, I write these blogs, and I also go to the hospital as an intern and so that that is pretty much for one day, you know, and there’s no time for many things. Besides, moving around the city takes really much time and these places are not near each other, if you want to know the truth, so that, the transportation takes much time, too, and there’s no time for anything else, as it turns out. The whole day is just scheduled pretty strictly and you can’t just do anything else besides being on a way and on some lessons or lectures or whatever. And you just have to study for everything on your way to some place, because you only get home at the end of the day, or you don’t even get home some days, I guess. And you have to have this huge backpack, where you have to put your white coat and books and uniform and everything else that you need. That backpack is your mini-home, if you want to know the truth. And that’s kind of funny, if you ask me, but there’s nothing else you can do. Sometimes it’s good if you have a car, because you won’t have to carry that backpack on your back all the time and you can put it in your car, however, moving with a car in a city is another big problem because of all those traffic jams and you just get really tired with that. Especially if you have to drive in those places in those times, where the huge traffic jams happen! That is just really exhausting.
