Christmas in the hospital

The introduction

When you are a doctor you don’t get to choose your day offs and nightshifts and it’s like, you have to be there in the hospital when you are called and it doesn’t matter, whether it’s a holiday or not. Those days are just the same as the other days. However, people still like to have some decorations around to have some feeling of Christmas and New Year and they always do something like that in the entrance of the hospital or somewhere in the corridors and rooms.

Well, when a patient comes to the hospital he or she doesn’t really feel like Christmas or New Year, I guess, because they are hurting or they are bothered by something, however, it’s still nice to get into the hospital and see some fir-trees or lights or decorations around.

Christmas in the hospital

So, while they know, that there are no days to celebrate Christmas or New Year in the hospital, people try to come up with some things, which will help them have some Christmas vibe or whatsoever. That’s why people in our hospital bought some Christmas decorations to put hem up on the walls and have some Christmas feeling around. One day, when I got to the hospital for my nightshift , there were some snowflakes on the ceiling and Christmas bells and fir-trees made with those Christmas lights, etc. it was strange, but you would feel some Christmas spirit around, I guess.

The other thing, that the coworkers thought of was that secret santa game, which has become very popular in these recent years and everyone just plays that game including the school pupils and students and others. And I’m sure that you aall know about that game. The people write their names on the paper pieces and then they have it like a lottery and people take one piece of paper and read whose name they have, but they don’t tell it to anyone else. They just have to know it for themselves. Then, after that, they think of some presents and finally they decide what to give to that person and they make it like surprise ggifts and that’s pretty cool. They either put a card inside the present, telling that person who their secret santa is, or just wait a little bit and then they tell them after some time. It’s a pretty cool game, because, first of all, it’s a pretty exciting one and you just wait for your present impatiently, and, secondly, it’s fun and everyone enjoys it.

Christmas in the hospital

Christmas Eve

Well, it was December 24 when I had a nightshift in the hospital and it was a Sunday, so that it was a 24-hour shift and everyone hates that, of course, especially when it’s a holiday, however, what can you do? You just have to go there and help people coming to the hospital to be saved and helped.

Christmas in the hospital

So, the day started in a pretty calm situation, I mean, there was nobody there and we didn’t have any patients from the morning. And we all chatted and had some jokes about almost everything, I guess. however, we knew, that when there’s no patient during the day, there can be lots of them during the nightand that’s the worst, because you are tired and sleepy at night and the patients just keep coming and it’s pretty terrible, if you ask me.
