4-th of July. No, not the American one!
Hello people, hope you’re having a good day!
I know, it's the 4-th of July and those who are Americans or live in America or whatsoever celebrate the date with all those celebrations and stuff. Well, it's Georgia where I am now, so it's not a holiday or something, but that's kind of a coincidence, that I have some things to share with you on this date.
Today I want to tell you about my today’s walking and stuff in Tbilisi and if you read my blog carefully, you will discover many things, where you can go or what you can buy somewhere and many other things, because I was in many places today and some places were good, some were not exactly that good, but still, it was a nice walk in the capital of Georgia and you can see it as well, too.
The university
Well, first of all, I had to be on lectures, of course, at the university at 9 a.m. It was that early in the morning. We went there by car and it was pretty surprising that there were no traffic jams or something like that, because it was a Monday morning and usually, Monday mornings are pretty busy, especially the roads, of course, and because of that _ that there were no traffic jams _ we came to the university really early, it was 8:40 I guess, so there was no one there except for us. Well, I had this thing _ I wanted to pay for the Internet and went to the pay machine and then returned to the university yard, crossed it and came to the second university building, where we would have this clinical skills’ lectures. There was my groupmate and he told me that there was no one there yet, so we were there outside, waiting, and then my brother came there, too, after he bought some peach yogurt for himself.
Sooner or later our lectures started and we were there sitting and listening and then doing some stuff. Well, if you’re interested, I will tell you, that it was all about how you treat your patients and consultation and communication and we even played some roles about that. After that we had a lecture about respiratory system and its diseases and the inhalation equipment and stuff like that. It was tiring, but very interesting, of course.
After finishing the university, I had decided to go and have my hair cut and I knew where I would go and do that. And it was a great weather, not too hot, not windy, not rainy, so it was a pleasure to walk around the city, you know. I went to see the hairdresser and have a new haircut. You know, I spent an hour or so the day before to find my desired haircut on photos and so that I could show them to my hairdresser to cut my hair that way. However, all this was in vain, I guess, because when I got to the saloon the sign said, that they worked everyday except for Monday. Well, that was a bust. But what could I do?! I decided to have my hair cut tomorrow!
Then I was going to meet my friend after I had done my hair, but it didn’t happen, so I had already some free time for meeting her. We decided to meet on Pekini Ave. And then we would go someplace to sit and talk and stuff like that. So, until she got out of home, I could go and by this milkshake that I had not drank for a long time now. This milkshake is sold nearby Marjanishvili metro station, and I was there, so I thought I would go and get it and then go to Pekini Ave. And that’s what I did. I took a chocolate milkshake, and it only costs 1 Lari and it’s really delicious. There’s always a long queue outside this shop, people just love those milkshakes and Pishka. They have chocolate, banana, strawberry and vanilla milkshakes and I love the chocolate one. And it was cold and icy and that’s what someone needs in a summer day, I guess.
Luca Polare
So, I took my milkshake and went to metro to get to Pekini Ave. When I got there, we decided to go to Luca Polare and sit there. I wanted to eat some good cake and they have a few cakes there, so that’s why we went there, basically. However, people go there to eat ice-cream mostly, because they have a variety of ice-creams which are pretty delicious, and although I wanted to eat some ice-cream, too, I just couldn’t, because if I ate it, I couldn’t eat a slice of cake, because I would feel full, and second of all, if I ate some cake , I wouldn’t be able to eat the ice-cream. And I decided to have a cake. Then I was choosing between blueberry cheesecake, raisins cheesecake, carrot and walnuts and raisins cake, brownie, cherry tart, apple strudel, sponge cakes and muffins. It was a lot of thinking to do. And I couldn’t decide which one to eat. Then the consultant girl said, that raisin cheesecake was more nourishing, than the carrot one, so after all those thinking, I decided to taste the carrot cake,as I hadn’t tasted it until then and I was really wondering what it would taste like. I took the table outside just right to the door. It was a cute comfortable table and seats and we sat there, in a calm environment and my friend drank iced coffee and I ate my cake and drank my milkshake, which by the way, I had still left. Well, technically, I didn’t drink it that much while I was on my way to Pekini Ave.
Books at the Station Square
After eating and drinking and talking about all the stuff, we decided to go to books’ stores and see which books they had in German and we would buy some if we liked them.
There were many books in the stores, but most of them were in English and there were books for English exams and for TOEFL and IELTS and FCE and others and there were Georgian books, too, of course, and there were school books and all the others. There were also literature books in Georgian and in English and in Russian and there were some books in French, too, but not in German! That was pretty frustrating. There were only a couple of books of German grammar and some Goethe Institut books, like Menschen and something called Studio. My friend bought this Studio book for 25 Laris. Well, I guess, the book was okay. It was B1 level and there were some texts and exercises and vocabulary in it.
Well, we wanted some German books for reading, too, and I remember my teacher saying that there were those small adapted books by levelsand I could buy them and read them so that my vocabulary would become richer, and I wanted to buy those books. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find anything like that. There are just books in English of that type, you know, the Penguin Readers’ books that are small books and they are adapted versions of large books for just reading practice and stuff like that and they have these levels written on them like “beginner”, “intermediate” and others.
Tbilisi Central on the Station Square
We had another option, too _ we could go to Biblusi _ that is a book store and it’s very large and it has branches all over Tbilisi and maybe in other cities, too, like Batumi or Kutaisi or Rustavi. I knew, that there wouldn’t be books like those, because I was in two of their branches some time earlier and they didn’t have anything like that, though this store was nearby where we were _ it was in Tbilisi Central _ this large shopping center on the Station Square and it was easy for us to go and just ask whether they had some German reading books or not. Biblusi was almost on the top floor of Tbilisi Central, that’s the place where people can buy train tickets and, well, for me that is the place of trains, mostly. I didn’t know that this Biblusi store was located there. My friend took me there, so she knew it. Well, we looked around the store, saw some good books, which could have been bought, but the price was not very cheap and we decided to wait for the book festival. These book festivals are held about twice a year and there are many books and some of them are on sale and you can buy many things there, if you want to know the truth.
Then we decided to walk into some clothes’ shops, as there are a couple of shops in Tbilisi Central. Well, my friend wanted to go into them, so we went. She just likes to go and see some clothes, I guess, because that day she was in many shops like that. Going inside we met my groupmate, he was with his sister as he said, but she was going all around the shop and I hadn’t seen her. We talked a little, until my friend looked around the shop and then went outside.
Except for the clothes’ shops, there are technique shops in Tbilisi Central, too, and, I must say, that there are more technique shops there than the clothes’ shops. So, one of the technique shops are Metro Mart. It’s a huge shop, where you can find many things from TVs to plates and toys for girls and boys. So, my friend said that her friend (who I also know) worked there, so that we could see her. So, we went there, too, as we were already nearby. And while we were looking for her, someone approached me from behind and put hands on my eyes and was like “guess who I am” and I just couldn’t guess who could he have been. And he was almost laughing at me, because I couldn’t guess who he was and he also said that I couldn’t stand a chance of guessing. Then at last, I turned to him and saw my classmate, who I hadn’t seen for a long time and immediately understood that I wouldn’t be able to guess him, because he even made himself sound strange so that I would get all confused and stuff. I was really glad that I met him. He had this Metro Mart uniformon and I didn’t even know that he worked there. And at that time he had this customer waiting for him so he was rushing to him and I followed him, too. It was a pretty funny situation. This man wanted to see a laptop just like he bought the day before, because the one he had bought had some problems and stuff like that. He wanted to see a manager and, you know, how it goes. And my friend was all calm and serious and stuff. And I wanted to talk to him a little, but this man wouldn’t go and was demanding some things and, well, I decided to go and find my friend until this man went. Finally she saw me and waved at me. She was with her friend who worked there and we talked a little. She knew my classmate, too, of course and asked me about him, too. We went to see some photographs and then I saw that that man had left and went to talk to my classmate at last.
Going home
Well, as we had all the things done that we wanted, my friend was going to wait for a bus and I would take the metro. First of all, I saw her off and then went to the metro station, which was nearby the Tbilisi Central. Metro takes 15 minutes from the Station Square to Varketili _ where I was going. So, I was there in Varketili metro station in just about that time and then I had to walk a little or take a bus to my home. Usually I don’t take a bus, because it doesn’t really go exactly to my building, and while I can wait for it, I can just be at home, because I need something like 10 minutes from that bus station to my building and I can just wait for it for ten minutes if it doesn’t come sooner. So, there’s no point in waiting, you know, if you’re not very tired or have some have backpack or luggage or something like that. So I walk to my home, in general.
And I also wanted to see some things, a new shop, in particular. My aunt told me the other day, that she saw a shop , where there were some frames and paintings and other stuff, and since I go to Rustaveli Avenue for my painting stuff and bring all those stuff from there, maybe they had those stuff here, too in Varketili and so that I wouldn’t have to go all the way to Rustaveli and bring those things to Varketili. So, after many explainings of where exactly was that shop, I thought I guessed where it was and told her that I would check it out. So, I had guessed it correctly, I must say. There was this shop between the shops where they sell plastic things, and some people were sitting outside and I asked them whether this shop was selling frames and stuff or not and they said “yes” and that I could go in and ask the seller about them. So I went in. the inside was wonderful, I mean, there were these pictures and paintings in frames and all the other stuff and it was all beautiful. He had printed some good stuff on some canvasesand some of them were made from knitting stuff and some of them were from clothes and everything. Though there was not those things for me that I needed. I wanted them to have prepared canvases so that I could buy them and then paint them with oil paintings or acrylics, you know, that’s what I do, usually. Unfortunately, he told me that he didn’t have those materials to make those canvases. He just had these frames on which then they stretch the canvases and prepare them for painting. That was sad, but I’m glad that something like that is nearby, so that if I need anything I could go there.
