Erasmus Experience in Strasbourg, France by Elena

Why did you choose to go to Strasbourg, France?

Strasbourg is a beautiful city, as is the whole region of Alsace itself. Great landscapes.

I choose to go there because it's located on the border with Germany and although the official language is French, the two cultures are in contact and you can also learn German. For anyone travelling etc., it's one of the cities you can travel from the most, being situated in central Europe.

How long is the scholarship for? How much money do you receive as aid?

7 months is the maximum they pay for. €2, 300.

How is student life in Strasbourg?

Fantastic! The University organises many events to get the Erasmus together etc., as does the city itself. There are constantly events for students to get to known each other and connect, etc.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Strasbourg to other students?

Yes.

How is the country's food?

Good. If I had to give it a score, I would give it a 7. 5.

Did you find it difficult to find accommodation in Strasbourg?

No. In my case, I live in a student hall and the Crous (the organisation responsible for finding you accommodation) granted me with it. It works the same way if you're after an apartment, a flat...

How much does it cost to live in Strasbourg?

Approximately €300 a month (including what I pay for the student hall (€180)).

How is the language? Did you go to any courses at the University?

The language is fine. No, I didn't go to any.

What is the most economical way of getting to Strasbourg from your city?

Flying from Madrid to Frankfurt and travelling from Frankfurt to Strasbourg by bus or train.

There are many other possible combinations (flying Madrid to Paris and Paris to Strasbourg by bus or train, flying Madrid to Basel and Basel to Strasbourg by bus or train) and you can also fly to Strasbourg directly but it's more expensive.

Which places would you recommend to go out to party in Strasbourg?

Café des Anges, La Salamandre, Living Room, Agora... amongst many others.

And to eat in Strasbourg? Can you name your favourite places?

Au Telegraphe, Au Brasseur, L'Académie de la Bière, Flam's, etc.
