Erasmus Experience in Strasbourg, France by Pilar
Why did you choose to go to Strasbourg, France?
It's a fantastic city in the centre of Europe! It's a place that's easy and cheap to travel around the whole continent from. The EM Business School, where I study, is very prestigious and isn't hard to study at.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I'm here for the whole course, which will finish in April, it's great because, afterwards, I'll be able to better make the most of my holidays to travel! I got the Erasmus grant and the aid from the French government (CAF) for my accommodation, which it's very helpful.
What is the student lifestyle like in Strasbourg?
It's great!
Would you recommend the city and the university of Strasbourg to other students?
Absolutely!
What is the food like there?
It's delicious, French food does not disappoint.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Strasbourg?
No! There are a lot of residences, public ones as well as private ones.
I would recommend La Marne, MUI and Studea Winston 2, since they have private kitchens and bathrooms.
As for the public residences, definitely Les Flamboyants, Les Cattleyas or La Somme.
How much does it cost to live in Strasbourg?
The city is a bit expensive, but if you spend sensibly, you won't have any issues!
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the university?
I go to French classes, although everyone speaks English here.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Strasbourg from your home city?
I flew from Madrid to Basel and took Flixbus from there.
You can fly directly to Strasbourg (although there aren't many flights) and, if not, to Basel, Karlsruhe, Frankfurt or Paris (in that order for convenience) and then you can take the bus (they run constantly).
Where would you recommend for a night out in Strasbourg?
Living Room, Live Club, Café des Anges, Gold Club...
And to eat in Strasbourg? What are some of your favourite places to go?
Au Brasseur, Flams.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
La Petite France, although the city in general is beautiful, the island part is especially so.
Do you have any advice for students coming to Strasbourg in the future?
Enjoy it!
