Erasmus Experience in Strasbourg, by Regina

How did you find living in Strasbourg? Would you recommend it?

Strasbourg is a beautiful and peaceful city to live in, with a thousand things to do, although not the typical 'party' city.

What's the student atmosphere like in Strasbourg?

The student atmosphere is unbeatable....

How much did living in Strasbourg cost?

Without counting accommodation (which varied a lot depending on whether you lived in a student residence or flat), around €300 as long as you drink wine/beer and not long drinks! haha

Was it difficult finding accommodation in Strasbourg? Can you offer any advice?

Very, if you haven't already rented somewhere in advance (from Spain)...it's a nightmare! I'd recommend the student residences, because to rent a flat you're required you to have a French guarantor... I lived as a 'squatter' for a month before finding my flat!

What's the country's cuisine like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is great, simply great! The cheeses were my favourite - whichever kind! And all of the Alsatian specialities.

Where would you recommend visiting?

Everywhere! And take advantage of the SNFC rail network and the opportunity to go (by train) to Germany.

And places to eat in Strasbourg? Where would you recommend?

"La corde à linge" has the best hamburgers in the world, "Au brasseur" for the best 'tarte flambée' you can get! And if you're not fussy then I recommend you try the salty tarts from "Artichaud".

Where would you recommend for a night out in Strasbourg?

There are a lot of clubs, Salamandre, Seven, Barco Latino (the best - without a doubt).

Any advice you'd like to give future Erasmus students in Strasbourg?

Make the most of every opportunity, sign yourself up for every event and get to know every corner of the city. You'll be surprised by how much is going on - exhibitions, shows, festivals.....
