1st of May or Valvurga

Spring comes very late in Sweden but when it comes it is wonderful. Here, Swedish people celebrate the end of the winter and the beginning of the spring. It is the Valvurga party, on 1st of May, or if you prefer 30th april at night.

It is a night where every students wear their typical costumes, make fires, dance… and definitely as well celebrate the end of the exam periods, usually in may in Sweden. It is a party that comes from Middle Ages and where everybody go together, it is not a familiar moment at all.

One of the best places to go to celebrate Valvurga is to Uppsala, the city of universities. There you can join to them and celebrate it together. You can find some activities from the early morning until the next day. My friends in Erasmus and me have booked the train to go there because Swedish people always are very anticipatory and we do not want to go out of Valvurga.
