Cold in Canada Aye!!

I am only a week or two home from a two week break in St. John's, Newfoundland. I booked the trip as a spur of the moment thing. I went over to visit my sister who lives there. She has been there a few years so I thought it was high time I visited the place where she lives. I left Ireland with excitement. I also left scorching hot weather. When I landed in St. John's after a three hour flight delay... it was cold. It was colder than I had imagined. At least I avoided the snow.

Tourist things to do

It is a nice quirky little town that reminds me of home as it is inundated with Irish pubs. One such pub is a small quaint one called Fiddler's. It definitely has character. St. John's also feels a little like home. She did the tourist thing with me by bringing me (making me climb) Signal Hill, checking out Cape Spear and we took a drive along the coast. It is a beautiful place and well worth a visit if only to see the enormous icebergs emerging from the sea. You can also do a boat tour to see them up close. Fort Amherst has a lovely white and red lighthouse that overlooks the sea for miles. The nighlife is quite good also with a variety of places to socialise in. I frequented Tim Hortons for their French Vanilla Cappucino and the odd timbit. I also got to see some of the local bands play a gig in J.A.G. That was a really fun night as was a Cinco de Mayo party we had. We also had a bonfire in Middle Cove. Seeing the iceberg out in the water amidst the fog was so picturesque. One thing that takes getting used to in St. John's are all the hills. There are hills upon hills there so if you are walking it keeps you fit at least. Overall, it was a great experience and everyone there is friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend a visit.
