Brukenthal Museum- the soul of Sibiu

Published by flag-ro Patricia Ioana — 9 years ago

I've visited several times, over time, for the simplest reason that I liked! Last time, in 2009.

Who knows that Brukenthal National Museum is located in the large square in Sibiu, a city with a special charm, a former European capital of culture in Central Transylvania? It is the oldest Museum in Romania!

So, if you are in this burg, it's a shame to miss out on a visit here at the Brukenthal Museum, because it is very accessible, through his privileged location right in the historical center!

Some data

Brukenthal Palace has been built in stages by Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, and used as his official residence, at the end of the 18th century, while occupying the position of Governor of Transylvania. But also to shelter of the art collections.  Plans for the Museum were made by a Viennese architect.

Before you enter  in the Palace I admired and I noticed the coat of arms of Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, perched up on the vault. The left-right, the flags of the EU and of Romania. I think that building was renovated, as were most of the historical centre of Sibiu, in 2007, when the city was declared European capital of culture, because they look very good, nicely painted in blue and white.

The price

We have encountered employees responsible for the security of the Museum and have given us the necessary instructions and we headed to the ticket office, somewhere on the left side. Normal ticket price was  12 lei  (3 euro) for adults, and for children, students, retired people or groups were plenty of discounts. I was asked by the staff if I wish to visit the library, which houses a lot of rare books, manuscripts and valuable magazines, but we chose to visit the art gallery only. I guess if you wanted to choose something else in addition, each option having a price separately, added to the $ 12 (3 euro).

All of the tickets we received and a small leaflet with information about this lens. There is also a special place where those who are invited to luggage and store them.  By December, Romania's day, admission is free.  Visitation schedule is Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Court

we cansee  a sculpture which represents baron. And do not admire the bust!  In the entrance hall there are a few message boards, but I lingered too long there because it was a terrific current in the area. The Palace has two large courtyards separated by some stone portals, which are applied to the sculptures of goddesses, as I have seen on many old buildings in Sibiu. One of the courtyards was destined for the holiday, and the other annexes. By December, Romania's day, admission is free.

Visitation schedule is Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Art Gallery

I noticed the painting collections, belonging to the main European schools of painting from the 15th-16th century. But also valuable works of Romanian artists, such as Gandhi and Pallady. The Romanian art gallery besides paintings, there were sculptures, pieces of silver objects, mobier or Romanian porcelain of the 17th century, I won't try to describe the scenes in those paintings, because that is not the point of this review, but to inform and awaken interest in the meaning.

The staff

In each room were two men, friendly and very well trained, speakers of several languages. Whenever I had a curiosity and I asked for help, I was very enlightened self-interest. In fact, I noticed that only women worked, which oversee everything that happens in that room, but with some discretion. Now I thought to lead the action in "the Davinci code" and I think he also appeared a smile in the corner of the mouth!

Photography

I haven't seen anywhere a poster that prohibied photography. But honestly, I was not looking for! However, I only made a few pictures. The use of flash is forbidden, because bright light can break down the dye.

The store

It is located at the entrance. From there you can purchase a wide range of books about all the works of art that are on display here, in many languages. Also I've seen a lot of DVDs with topics related to Museum, mugs with bust of Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, magnets and key chains.

Conclusion

This visit was an interesting experience. Recommend to everyone, but especially men! My friend, being very absorbed in the paintings of nudes by Botticelli, Rubens and Tititan! Instead, I felt like in a Museum of art. I did not  get bored, nor do I feel as time goes on. I learned many interesting things about the history of Sibiu and Transylvania and about life of the people of that time in the rest of Europe.

So, to thank you in thought, Baron because he had this great idea to leave us this ' ' legacy ", which is the first museum in Romania that was awarded by the EU, for the" cultural heritage of Europe '!

So, do not miss it!
