The Colentum Archeological Site in Murter Island
We organized us the fifth project in the archaeological site of Colentum between 15-09 till 15-10 and the project ended last week. I had the opportunity to meet with 11 new volunteers from 4 different countries. I would like to briefly write about what I lived and what we did during the 1 month.
The first person to come to Murter was my closest friend. He came to Murter 3 days ago from the beginning of the project. Frankly, I was so glad he came. Because visa procedures were too long. He also received his visa the day before he came here, despite all this, he was very happy to participate in this project.
Then all the volunteers came in that week. Everyone settled in the rooms we found before. On the second day, we went to the office with my new friend and the volunteers joined us later. My new volunteer friend came to Murter one day after the project started. In this project, they received brief information about their expectations, wishes and things to do. The first day, we informed them about that place and they played a game aimed at introducing the Colentum. Then they cleaned the perimeter. Other days, they performed some tasks such as cutting some branches and building stone walls.
That day they also said they wanted to have a karaoke party and have found a place. We had really fun moments together. After that, we went on an island tour to see the places to visit on Murter Island. They were most impressed by the church of St. Rocco. Because it is built on a hill where you can see many islands from that area. On another day, we discovered different beaches and found the opportunity to swim. I and my friend decided to have the first hitchhiking experience in Croatia. I want to say that we were successful on the first day in Croatia. We arrived in Šibenik by hitchhiking after about 2 hours and I feel lucky that we arrived without waiting too much. Another weekend we went to Plitvice National Park together. It was a region with really impressive nature and landscapes. We rented a house in a village as a place to stay that day. The air, environment and water of that town was a beautiful place. That part was also a border to Bosnia. After that day, we decided to make a football match together. The children joined us while we were playing football and we played together.
We have organized an event where they introduced their own culture, food and language. Volunteers from four different countries provided information about their tastes, alphabets, cultural and historical places. I especially missed the Turkish food very much and I had the opportunity to taste it a little bit :)). They shared ideas about the further introduction of this archaeological area and how to make environmental arrangements. Based on these ideas, they managed to create some interesting and beautiful designs.
A few days before the end of the project, we invited all volunteers to our home. I and Claudia (my new volunteer friend) cooked some the Italian and Turkish dishes. A few days later, they received youthpass certificates and put their feelings and thoughts about each other into envelopes.
I had the opportunity to meet everyone and had a good time with them. I hope we can meet again at different locations...
