Experience in Seinajoki, Finland by Morgane
How did you find the town of Seinajoki as a place to live? Do you recommend it? What is the town like?
Seinajoki is a small town but it has a large university with lots of international students from all over the place!
The student halls are situated 5-10 minutes from the university building, with a pretty river between the two! Regarding the accommodation, the apartments are more than suitable; everyone lives in a shared apartment of two or three students! It's clean and the rooms are big!
The town centre is 10-15 minutes away by foot and there's a Lidl, an H&M and a Vero Moda! The two main night clubs are in the town centre so it's perfect! One of the clubs is free if you have a student ID from the university!
How is the student life in Seinajoki?
It's great! You're never alone! You'll definitely make strong connections with certain people but it's always good to find others and throw a party! There are people from everywhere: Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, Russia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Vietnam etc.!
Everyone is kind and there is no prejudice! You always have amazing times together!
What is the cost of living in Seinajoki?
It's expensive... especially alcohol... one bottle of rosé: 10€...
For food, you'll need to add at least 3€...
But if you have your student card, train fares are average, which is ideal for visiting other towns in Finland.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Seinajoki? Do you have any advice?
No, the university gives you information on the halls of residence directly: Marttilla Kortterii! This is the halls that all the students stay in, it's like a little residential area!
You have to make a reservation in advance (I did it in May) in order to get the choice you want: 2 or 3 people to a flat (or alone if you like).
How is the food in the town? What are your favourite dishes?
It's the same as in France, I go to Lidl and buy the same things!
The university restaurant is at number two, 6€ and it's good! However, you only get one hot dish and one drink, after that you can help yourself to bread.
What places in Seinajoki do you recommend seeing?
Walk along the river! And near the hospital there is a magnificent lake!
I didn't have the time to completely get to know the town!
Which places do you recommend for going out in Seinajoki?
Karma or Ilona.
What advice would you give to future Erasmus students in Seinajoki?
Life here is great! You're always surrounded by people! Since I arrived here I've just never stopped, we go out, we play sports, we visit each other!
We went to Tallinn, Tampere, there's plenty more stuff to do!
The university is super modern, I think it's only one year old, it's beautiful, colourful and clean! The halls of residence are great, everyone is really close.
We do everything on foot, but everything is relatively close to the halls so there's no problem! You can also buy a bike for under 100€!
