In August, I was in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan visiting a friend and she told me about this amazing coffee shop that she wanted to take me to.
As we hung out with her friends that week, she kept mentioning - "I'm going to take her to Drift."
Drift Sidewalk Cafe.
When we pulled up to the curb near the downtown area, I could already tell that this was going to be an amazing experience. The wall outside of Drift is painted so colorfully that people are always stopping to take pictures in front of it. The customers spill out on to the streets and lean out the windows in a way that took me back to Europe. The colors...wow, the colors were spectacular.
Before going to Canada, I had never heard of a London Fog. Evidently, it is a very common flavor and drink for Canadians, a mix of Earl Grey tea and milk, sometimes with vanilla added. They had London Fogs at Drift, as well as a chai pudding in a London Fog flavor which I tried.
I had also never tried a Turmeric Latte before. I'm a big fan of turmeric - it is a spice that is very good for your brain, and it goes well in Indian dishes. My trip to Drift was also my first taste of Turmeric Latte. Even though I really wanted to like it, I really didn't unfortunately. But it made for really great pictures, and I'm sure my brain was happy!
Our table was alongside an open window, and we even had a hammock chair nearby that we used for swinging and photo-taking. The atmosphere was so friendly as people walked by and talked to their friends through the open windows. I couldn't help staring at all of the walls and the amazing pictures and mementos hanging on them. It was like the most amazing and picturesque mess that didn't feel like a mess - it felt like a story. It took you in and made you feel at home.
Now I understand why Drift is a heart-warming word in Saskatoon.
