Regma Ice-cream
Although this is not a blog to talk about my personal life, I am a big fan of summer loves and today, I have a summer love that may interest you. Its name is Ice Cream and the last name is Regma. Thanks to my summer time spent in Cantabria since I was a little girl I've been able to get to know this ice cream house. The ice-cream parlour and the cafeteria, Regma, also have some other sweets but if they are known for something, that is their ice creams. While some of my friends couldn't distinguish between having an ice cream in the van of the beach's car park, a frozen one or a simple Flash, I've always had a thing about the ice creams with a biscuit cone and, in particular, with Regma. I am always indecisive about having the classical and safe combination of "mantecado" (traditional crumbly biscuit made from almonds and lard) and chocolate and the delicious "Jaspeado de Moca y nata" (marbled mocha and cream).
Even though I order the same flavours pretty much every time, there is more variety: chocolate, Jaspeado de Moca, cream, strawberry, lemon, yoghurt, nougat, hazelnut, "jaspeado escocés", and tutti frutti (if they hadn't added anything new). And, even if none of the flavours will let you down, one of the things that makes you choose Regma and not another great ice cream shop (such sas Monerris, Capri, La Italiana... ) is, for the gluttonous like me, the size of the ice cream. For 2. 20 Euros they give you at least two "balls" of the ice cream, and they are very big. Of course, knowing how the market works, the artisan ice cream that follows the name of the company loses credibility with so much quantity, but for my taste they do not have as much to envy to other houses.
When I got to know Regma, more than 10 years ago, they were not this established but, luckily for me and other fans, Regma has been spreading out all over Cantabria to get to Asturias, where we can find these amazing ice creams in Gijón, Ribadesella, Luanco and Llanes. They have also arrived to Castilla y León, to Aguilar de Campooo. I would like to be able to defend these small businesses, but when it comes to Regma's ice cream the sugar comes up all the way to my head and I forget the damage that big chains make. Honestly, I'm hoping so badly that they get to the Vasque Country (guilty! ).
Regma is a symbol of the city of Santander that even though has lost a little bit of force over the last few years because of the frozen yoghurt shops, it always has long queues waiting to get some ice cream in July and August. And even in the winter, some daring people can't resist it and buy some.

The best ice creams
If I have to highlight something about my visit to Cantabria, it would definitely be the sheer amount of ice creams that I had. Despite the best ice creams in the world being found in Italy (I can attest to that), I found a good substitute in those at Regma Creamery.
Regma is a chain of ice cream parlours in Cantabria, with stores spread over a large part of the region. Most of them are located in the old towns of cities or close to turistic places, but there are also stores in small villages, like Potes, or even outside the region, like in Oviedo, Asturias. During my stay, I tried nearly all of the Regmas in Santander. In Paseo de Pereda, one of the main streets of the city, we found two stores and an ice cream stand in the park with the same name. Close to the town hall, there is another one in a corner. In Sardinero, one of the most elegant neighbourhoods of the city, there are two stands, we tried the one by the second beach, next to the Casino, which, for me, was the best place in terms of the quantity given.
Regma's ice creams are not only famous for their flavours, but also for their size. They almost always serve you huge scoops that you find difficult to finish eating. The price of a regular size ice cream (which is huge, in reality) is around 2, 20€ to 2, 50€.
