First of all I have to say that San Sebastian is definitely one of my favorite cities! I have been there many times and I can seriously not get enough of this place! The beautiful oldtown with all its cute little streets, bars and tapas places.. ohhh the tapas..definitely one of the main reasons to go to San Sebastian. But that is not want I want to talk about today.
San Sebastian is not just characterised by its oldtown but also by the beautiful nature it is surrounded by. Its bays and the mountains around the city make it in my opinion to one of the most wonderful cities in Spain. To get a perfect overview over the city you should go to the Monte Urgull, a little mountain on the right side (when facing the ocean) of the bay La Concha. It is a little bit of a walk up there, but there are different ways to get to the summit. From the harbour of the city stairs are leading to different levels of the mountain and finally to the top. Once you made it it is definitely worth every effort!
From there you can see down on the bay of San Sebastian and especially enjoy perfectly the sunset. As it is on the Atlantic Ocean side, the sun sets over the ocean and with some beers and friends, there is no better way to end a beautiful day in a beautiful city. Also there is a little castle on the mountain top and even a big Christ statue, which brings a little bit of Rio de Janeiro air to this place.
In summer people from everywhere, either travelers, international students or people from surfcamps gather up here to see the sun set and enjoy the last light hours of the day. There is always a really great atmosphere up there.. sometimes with people playing guitar and singing. On one of the levels on the way to the top there is even a bar where you enjoy a glass of wine or sangria to the marvelous view.
So if after a day of sunbathing, shopping and eating tapas you want a perfect end of your day before hitting the local bars, definitely walk up to the Monte Urgull and enjoy one of the most beautiful places to see the sun set.
