Experience in San Salvador, El Salvador by Martha

What is it like to live in San Salvador? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

San Salvador is the capital of El Salvador, to live here is great because everything is close, you can go wherever you wants in minutes, malls, parks, restaurants, churches, school, clubs, your neighborhood, the beach, the mountain, everything's near. The climate is great, it almost never rains and is warm so. The people is the best we have, you can always find someone disposed to help. Of course I would recommended it, it's a small, but nice city.

The student life is good, you have variety of careers, they're approachable, good education, you can play sports also and you have time to do your personal stuff and go partying.

San Salvador is one of the cheapest cities in the world, you can eat a good lunch with just $2 and have fun with low cost, also the transportation isn't expensive, but I wouldn't recommend to use public transportation, isn't safe. Clothes are not expensive, and most important of all, education is cheap.

No, is not difficult, near to the universities there are always rooms for rent, and they're not expensive. Unfortunately no, I don't know any advice.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is awesome. The Salvadoran national dish is called "Pupusas", it's like a tortilla with cheese or beans or a lot of things more on the inside and it's just delicious. There are also nuegados (my favorite, they're awesome), tamales, empanadas, etc. There are a lot of restaurants of food of all around the world (Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Peruvian, Indian) Sushi and Sea food is great and cheap.

There are lot of clubs and they sell all kind of drinks, and they're not to much expensive, the cost of the entrance is cheap too. The most popular are Chafa Gastrobar, Circo, Jaleo, The rooftop, etc. and there's always good Latin music!

What advice would you give future students heading to San Salvador?

Strive and seize the opportunity of studying. And also to be careful because there are always some zones that are a little dangerous so they must be cautious. Visit all the places you can, do a lot of friends, enjoy the food, and I'm sure you'll fall in love with the country and the people.

San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador, is a fantastic city for spending time as a tourist or to make it your permanent home. It is better now that it is not as dangerous as before.
