What is it like to live in Saint Petersburg? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is absolutely magnificent. The culture, the views, the prices. The only challenges are the weather and lack of locals that speak foreign languages on a decent level.

It heavily depends on the uni, but city provides huge opportunities for the students to explore, party, find jobs.

How much does it cost to live in Saint Petersburg?

I do not rent an apartment, as i normally stay at my family’s place, but you can quite easily survive on 500€ a month (without rent)

I’m not experienced with looking for accommodation, unfortunately. But be ready that many landlords only speak Russian and are only willing to take Russian-speaking people in.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Russian cuisine is interesting, but literally any type of cuisine is represented in the city. I love pelmeni (Russian dumplings) and different soups.

What places would you recommend visiting in Saint Petersburg?

The list is endless: Hermitage, Isaac’s Cathedral, The Gulf of Finland. The whole city is a kind of museum and is heavily protected by UNESCO, so interesting places are everywhere.

It’s a very special experience. All the places on Rubinstein street are worth visiting. I love the network of Belgian pubs named Manneken Pis for their variety of international beer for a good price.
