Rovaniemi for beginners

Everyone connects Rovaniemi and Lapland in general with Santa Claus and Christmas. I won't hide it that you can feel the Christmas spirit through the whole year here BUT there are more than this. You need to come here to see the Northern light, to see the 'ruska' - finnish word for autumn colours, to see the midnight sun and polar nights, to get out of your comfort zone and to go ice swimming after really hot sauna, to go on a reindeer and husky safari, to cross the Arctic circle line and more, and more.

Rovaniemi for me is more than city, it's an experience, it's a provocation, it's an adventure. Actually, to be honest, I don't like snow and ice but I when I've chosen where to spend my Erasmus semester. I chose Rovaniemi. Now I'm here for more than month, it's colder than in Bulgaria, we're waiting for the first snow to fall very soon but I don't regret my decision. I enjoy every second here!

You can go for berry picking, you can see reindeers walking around you, you can see very warm people (forget the thing that Finns are cold and unfriendly, please), you can go to the beach (yes, there is a beach in Rovaniemi), you can go hiking, you can do whatever you want! So if you ever thinking about if Rovaniemi is good place to spend your Erasmus - the answer is totally Y-E-S!
