You can live well as an student in Rio de Janeiro. The prices are high for a citizen and you need to have this in mind if you are planning to study/live in Rio.

How much does it cost to live in Rio de Janeiro?

An apartment for rent is about BRL 1500 near downtown and BRL 2300 near the beach. Monthly expenses are about BRL 1200 (food + transport + bills) for a single person.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Rio de Janeiro? Is there any advice you can give?

To rent an apartment is difficult and expensive in Rio. You can find a room looking at your University, avoid places far from downtown or the beach. Prefer places near metro stations, always.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You can eat healthy and very well in Rio. Fresh fruits and vegetables and fish are available at supermarkets and local markets.

You need to taste the Feijoada, Caipirinha and Pastel. If you go to the beach, you can drink cold coconut water or MATE (iced tea).
