Experience in Reading, United Kingdom by Saira
What is it like to live in Reading? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Central Reading is quite busy, but very well connected to surrounding towns and cities. Buses are very cheap but bare in mind there are no Uber’s, so you will have to take taxis on nights out which can be very expensive.
What is the student lifestyle like in Reading?
There are many student bars and clubs that offer student prices, the Purple Turtle and Sakura are a few student favourites. Many restaurants offer student discounts and there are 2 shopping centres to fulfill all your shopping needs.
How much does it cost to live in Reading?
It’s neither expensive nor cheap, it’s a fairly reasonable living price.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Reading? Is there any advice you can give?
It can be quite expensive to live in central Reading so I’d suggest finding accommodation somewhere close by like Earley. Places here are slightly cheaper, it’s quieter and by bus you are only about 15 mins away from the Uni.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
There’s lots of restaurants for all tastes
What places would you recommend visiting in Reading?
The Purple Turtle, Hope Tap, the Oracle
Is it good to eat out in Reading? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Lots of restaurants, my favourites are Lebanese Comptoir and Las Iguanas
Is the nightlife good in Reading? Where is good to go?
Yes, Lola Lo and Q Club are good
What advice would you give future students heading to Reading?
Be aware that you can’t rely on Uber’s, there are some dodgy areas in Reading so be extra careful before you move in, use the buses because they’re cheap and reliable and don’t go too crazy shopping and eating out!
