Experience in Ravensburg-Weingarten, Germany by Hamza

What is it like to live in Ravensburg-Weingarten? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Ravensburg-Weingarten is a beautiful small city where one can find serenity in their everyday life... Ravensburg is comparatively bigger than Weingarten.

The good thing about this place is that in no time a person will be aware of the city's salient features and of its vicinity.

So I would totally recommend this place if you want to start a new chapter of your life.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ravensburg-Weingarten?

Student lifestyle can be good or bad depending on the person. Where on one side you have to do the the daily homework and projects allocated by the University, on the other hand you have the opportunity to get to know people from different cultures and different nationalities, as well as to understand the German mentality and culture and to experience cultural integration if you are a foreigner.

You'll find a lot of pubs and bars around here so for all the beer lovers this is your heaven.

How much does it cost to live in Ravensburg-Weingarten?

It costs around about 9000 euros per year to live here but a lot of this can be recovered by doing a part time job which majority of the students do out here.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ravensburg-Weingarten? Is there any piece of advice you can give?

Yes, unfortunately due to the fact that a lot of students come to this place to study the problem of accommodation has become serious there, as well as in other small cities. My advice is to find a place to stay temporarily before coming to Germany, it will sill help you get your bearings in a new country. If you don't do it, find proper accommodation remains really difficult.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You can find every type of food here, from vegetables and fruits which German love to eat, to some of the heavy protein meat which some people cannot live without. You can find Indian, Pakistani, Chinese, Thai and many other types of cuisine around here. If I had to choose the meal I like best it would be Chicken Biryani, a typical India-Pakistani cuisine. Yum!

What places would you recommend visiting in Ravensburg-Weingarten?

The very first place of interest to visit here is the Basilica in Weingarten. It is a very big church and it's towering structure can stun a person at first sight.

In summer people can go to Friedrichshafen, a city near Ravensburg where you can find Lake Constance (the biggest lake of Europe). Some of the other places include Meersburg, a place of remaining old architecture. If you want to visit some modern places for shopping, then Marienplatz would be the place for you. It is in Ravensburg.

Is it good to eat out in Ravensburg-Weingarten? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes it is, you can find every kind of cuisine. The best places are in Marienplatz, Ravensburg. My favourite spots are the Doner kebab shops in Marienplatz.

Is the nightlife good in Ravensburg-Weingarten? Where is it good to go?

Unfortunately in Germany (one of the cons) everything closes around about 7-8 pm. So it gets quite dead. But does this mean people die of boredom in here? Naa not a chance!

You can find two big pubs around here, Wiengarten Hoki and Alibi, which are open till 2 or 3 in the morning. If you want more fun you can find big clubs in Ravensburg.

People from other smaller cities come over to these clubs because they are famous. Trance, Electro you name it and you got it there.

What advice would you give future students heading to Ravensburg-Weingarten?

I advise you to make this trip as enjoyable as possible. Your experience coming here will be totally different from mine, but I can tell you that it is always a good experience;)
