More Visitors from Germany
The next day I had taken my last remaining holiday because a friend of mine had come to Tenerife to pass New Year there. As I had gone to Germany, it was the last day we could see each other and I was really looking forward to that. She was on holiday with her boyfriend and they had rent a nice small appartment in the South of the island, so she told me that they would come by car after breakfast. I woke up at about 8am because I had fell asleep quite early the day before. I had a message from my friend that they would have breakfast and would come at about 10 or 11am, so I still had some time left. I took a shower and started to clean up the appartment a bit - my suitcase and all my clothes and the things I had brought from Germany. I also had to go to the grocery store, because there was nothing in my fridge and I had tried to eat everything I had before Christmas. So I put my clothes on and got ready to leave the house. I had to hurry up a bit, because it was almost 10 and I didn't know when my friend would arrive exactly. I didn't really know what to buy - I wasn't more creative in regard to food than before, so I bought the same thing as always: milk, cereals, fruits, frozen vegetables and some chicken meat. I also had to buy water, something quite annoying when you have to bring everything home without a car. Fortunately, I was living 3 minutes away from the supermarket and it wasn't far to walk with all the things, but when it was really warm outside, I came home and had to take a shower again. This day it was warm, but not too warm, so I was okay when I came home. I put all the things I had bought into the fridge and the cupboard in my kitchen and sat down on the sofa, waiting for a message from my friend that they had arrived.
At 10:40 o clock she wrote me a message that they had just started their way from the South to Puerto de la Cruz, because they had slept a bit longer than planned and had just finished the breakfast. So I knew that I would have at least one more hour to relax and watch TV, because the way from the South to the North was long. I was quite tired even if I had slept a lot, and would have needed one more day of holidays to recover from the long journey the day before, but I would have to work the next day. I wasn't really motivated, because I knew that there wasn't a lot to do, even if the new year had just started, but the fact that I only had about three weeks left of my internship motivated me a little bit, anyway. One hour later my friend called me and told me that they had arrived, but were still looking for a parking. As the parking situation in the city centre was quite difficult, she called me again 10 minutes later and told me that they could not find any place. I decided to get down and help them searching. I got into their car, and showed them the way to Playa Jardìn - next to that beach you could find a place almost every time. And so it was this time, too. We left the car and went to Playa Jardín. It was one of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto de la Cruz, there were palmtrees in the sand, you had an impressing view to Teide and the mountains, and the black sand made it kind of special. My friend and her boyfriend really liked the beach, we took some nice pictures, and walked a bit in the sand. The weather had become really nice, it was even a bit too warm in my long trousers and my t-shirt, but in the shadow it was still cold - like about 19 degrees, it was january! ;)
After we had stayed a bit at the beach and enjoyed the atmosphere, we continued our way to the city centre. They didn't really know what they wanted to see, so I decided to show them a bit around the centre - there wasn't a lot to visit in Puerto de la Cruz, it was just the beaches, Loro Parque, and some stores. The way from Playa Jardìn to the city centre was about 20-25 minutes, and I was so used to walking that I hadn't even thought about the others. But they seemed to be okay, too, so I told them some interesting (and some not that interesting) facts about the city. We passed by a market where the inhabitants sold handmade products like jewlery, clothes, honey or shoes. As they hadn't been so lucky in regard to going shopping the last days, my friend was quite enthusiastic about that, and we passed some time at the market, where she bought a glass of honey and a bracelet. I really enjoyed the time with the two of them, as the most difficult thing for me in Tenerife was that my friends weren't there. We had a lot of fun together, and I liked to show them around. We went to the harbour, to Plaza de Charco, the biggest place in Puerto de la Cruz, to the pedestrian's zone, and to the promenade next to the sea, called Passeig San Telmo. It was the most frequented zone in the city, as there were many restaurants, cafés and shops, and the atmosphere next to the sea was amazing. We walked a bit around there, until Playa Martianez, but we became a bit tired from all the walking, so we sat down in one of the restaurants and had something to drink and something small to eat. We had "Papas arrugadas con mojo" and my friend's boyfriend had some mussles. Even if it was a much too expensive touristic restaurant (we didn't have time to go to another one that was less touristic), the food was good and we enjoyed sitting in the sun and watching the people around us. We sat there almost 1,5 hours until we finally paid and continued our tour through Puerto de la Cruz. It was still warm, but the sun was about to leave, so in the shadow it became a bit colder.
We had a frozen yoghurt at the promenade next to the sea and enjoyed the sound of the waves, before we continued our way in direction to the car. We were all tired from walking, and the weather didn't become any better. Furthermore, we had already seen the most important places in Puerto de la Cruz - Playa Jardìn, Playa Martianez, Lago Martianez and the city centre. As it wasn't even 3pm we decided to have a coffee before they would leave. We found a nice little place next to the old church and stayed there for a while. I had a cup of tea, my friend had a sandwich and her boyfriend had a coffee. It was a very beautiful place, but without the sun it became cold soon, so we decided to leave and continue our way back to the car. It was still far away, because we had gone a lot during the last hours. Even when I was used to walking a lot, I started to become tired, too. Fortunately it wasn't that hot, without the sun it was quite agradable to walk. We didn't do any more breaks, so we arrived at the car about 25 minutes later - all very tired. They insisted on bringing me back to my house by car, so we got all into the car and started our way back to Playa Martianez. I was a bit sad that our day was already over and that my friend would leave soon, but I knew that I had only 6 weeks left until I could see them all again. We arrived at my house and I hugged my friend to say goodbye.
Then they left and I was alone again. It was a weird feeling, because since I had arrived from Germany it was the first time I was really alone again, but I didn't have so much time to think about that, because I had to prepare myself for work the next day. I had to wash my clothes and prepare something to eat for the evening, and for work the next day. As always, I prepared some rice with the frozen vegetables I had just bought. I would have loved to prepare some other things, too, but as I had only four weeks left in my appartment and I didn't have so many equipment in the kitchen, I didn't have so many possibilities. Fortunately, we went out to have food in different restaurants quite often at the weekends, so at least then I had some nice food. After I had prepared everything for the next day, I decided to call my Dad and my boyfriend afterwards - out of some unknown reason I couldn't stand being alone in that moment, it was almost like the day after my boyfriend had left in November. After calling the two of them I felt better and sat down at the sofa to watch some of my (new) favorite series in TV. I had started to watch things like Castle and CSI Miami because the Spanish Televison didn't offer so many other interesting things but Living and Wedding series from the US and annoying talk shows where I didn't understand anything because they were talking much too fast. I spent the evening eating some chocolate and watching TV while I wasn't motivated at all in regard to work next day.
