20 metres under the sea
Two weeks later I finally could go diving for the first time after my course in Germany one year ago. In Tripadvisor I found a nice diving centre from mother and son from the United Kingdom and wrote them a Mail in order to ask some questions - where is it possible, how much is it etc. They answered immediately and were so nice, I really was looking forward to the experience.
Since my course in Germany I've never been diving outside the "learning frame", so I didn't know how it would be. But as they were so nice I was sure it would be a great experience. They picked me up at 8:30 near my house and we went to the Diving Centre near Loro Parque to choose the equipment and fill out the insurance forms. There were two other girls that have never been diving before and two other people that had more experience than me (you recognize things like that when they bring their own diving equipment from home).
After having chosen all the equipment we started in the bus to the diving spot which was about 40 minutes away from Puerto de la Cruz. I was a bit excited, but positively. I loved diving - it was connected with so much freedom and it was such a great feeling to be under water and discover hidden things that usually people don't see.
So we arrived and started to get the equipment ready. I recognized that I had forgotten a lot during the last year and I couldn't even do it myself. But because of the two other girls that didn't know anything about diving, he had to explain it anyway and I could hear it a second time. Getting into the diving suit is always the most annoying thing about diving. I feel like a little child that isn't able to put on clothes itself. But with the help of the others everyone was ready to dive finally. We did a short meeting to talk about where we would dive, where to get into and out of the water and what we might see.
With the 10 tons of equipment at our backs we finally started our 200m way to the sea. It is really not funny to walk with all those things but as soon as you enter the water you totally forget how heavy it is. The first dive (we would do two) I did together with the two girls that had never done it before. So it was more trying and getting used to everything in the beginning which was also good for me because I forgot a lot during the one year without diving. Then, we went down with one of the professional divers and discovered the world down there. We didn't go deeper than 10 metres, so it was nothing complicated and I could enjoy the feeling and the fishes around me.
The second dive was only me and the professional diver, because the two other girls had only booked one dive. So we discussed about the route for the second dive and went into the water again. This time we went up to 19 metres down and it was so fascinating! Before, I've never been deeper than 7 or 8 metres because I got problems with my ears. But this time everything went good and I was very proud of myself. The diver told me that he was surprised how good I was diving after only doing the course.
Then, it was over and we had to get up again. It is quite exhausting to be at 19 metres for a certain time, so I was tired and hungry, because I didn't bring anything to eat with me. We took off the suits and brought all the equipment back into the car and left to get back to Puerto.
The experience showed me once again that I really loved the water and loved diving and I thought about doing it once again here. Because - when would I be able to do it again in Germany? There are only some lakes where you can dive but that's not as beautiful as the sea with fishes and boats under the water.
