Experience in Prague, Czech Republic by Veronika

How much does it cost to live in Prague?

Prague is relatively cheap city. You can sped about 250 euro to rent a room in the city centre, and 250 euro for food and other activities. Thus, 500 euro per month is okay for Prague, and the amount will be even smaller if it is a town in the CZ that is not Prague (e. g Brno).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Prague? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not difficult, but find it carefully. There are a lot of landlords that do not want to rent a room to a foreigner or something like this. Ask them to make a contract in English or in your native language, as they may deceive you.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

National Cuisine is very tasty. However, it a bit expensive. If you want to eat somewhere, but do not want to spend a lot of money go to Asian places and eat there.

What advice would you give future students heading to Prague?

Be careful. Prague is a very nice place, but there are still many swindlers. They won't hurt you but will be happy to take your money.

  1. NEVER go to public transport without a ticket, as there always a lot of ticket men(and they are very strict) and a fee is quite high. And make sure that you have bought the right ticket. For now (2017), the cheapest ticket in Prague costs 24 CZK. But we have student tickets, that are extremely cheap and cost only about 260 CZK per month.
  2. Convert your money from Euro to Czech Koruns, as euro here accepts only in city centre.
  3. Be careful with drugs. Weed is decriminalised here, but you cannot keep more than 10 or 15g. Moreover, you cannot sell it. Make sure that you have bought a good one, as there a lot of low quality and even dangerous drugs from Ukraine.
