Experience in Prague, Czech Republic by Terezie
What is it like to live in Prague? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
In Prague, everything is chilled, you can do basically everything. Nobody cares.
What is the student lifestyle like in Prague?
You drink beer a lot. Or that'what people do.
How much does it cost to live in Prague?
Comparing to other countries in Europe it's a super cheap country. Except accomodation, it's on normal base, but other things are just cheap for foreigners. Beginning with beer for 2 euros, lunch menu for 6 euros, ending up with transportation which is now extra cheap for students. If you are a student, you can have travelpass for a month for 6 euros as well.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Prague? Is there any advice you can give?
In this question, I dont have a lot to say, because I have my own house since I was born. But there are a couple of websites for accomodation, and definitely you can find some on facebook also. University offers rooms in a residence, but as I've heard, it's not really in a good shape. So I would recommend to not live there.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is good but quite special. Be careful of dumplings, many foreigners don't like them. Everything is made with bread or flour. So if you eat glutenfree, it could be hard to find anything for you in a typical czech restaurant. But we have many international places, so in Prague you can find any cuisine you wish. For example, I am glutenfree and vegetarian, and I dont eat czech cuisine at all, but there is a lot I can eat.
From czech dishes, you should try Nakladany hermelín with beer or Utopenec with beer. Also Vepřo knedlo zelo dish, and Svíčková na smetaně dish.
Is it good to eat out in Prague? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
I am eating only outside basically. The key is just to know the neigbourhoods where to eat. So the neigbourhoods are: KARLIN, LETNÁ, VINOHRADY, JIŘÍHO Z PODĚBRAD square; these are the best. If you like vietnamese, try PHO VIETNAM on JIRIHO Z PODEBRAD square.
Is the nightlife good in Prague? Where is good to go?
There's a great nightlife. It's the best city you can go for it. Try Dlouhá třída for a typical clubs and the districts I already mentioned in the previous question. Plus the city centre like the Old town...
Try Vzorkovna, you will love that!
Alternative clubs: Ankali, Vlkova, U bukanýra, boat Altenburg, Mayapur pokojíček, Underground 38.... and many more techno spots.
What advice would you give future students heading to Prague?
Enjoy it! Dont mess around too much, but take it easy and chill, and you will love it!
