What is it like to live in Prague? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

The city of Prague is beautiful. There are many places to see and hang out in the evening, especially along the river. People are friendly and will help you in times of need. The summers are very sunny here and if you love heat while being in Europe then Prague is the place for you.

What is the student lifestyle like in Prague?

Food is pretty cheap but, since Prague is so huge, the expenses on other activities will be higher. For students, part time work is the best source of extra income.

How much does it cost to live in Prague?

For rent, 10000 CZK is the maximum with accommodation insurance. Food expenses roughly go up to 200 € a month plus 100 € if you are a party kind of person; there's an additional cost of about 100 € if you want to travel to nearby cities during the weekends. I'd advise you to buy public transportation passes (there are 1/3 monthly passes, as well as yearly ones). It becomes easier to travel with these passes rather than buying a new single ticket every time.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Prague? Is there any advice you can give?

Yes, it is, especially for third country nationals, because very few landlords or agencies will provide the accommodation insurance. For Europeans its easier because they can also get cheaper accommodation (200 €/month). Always look for an apartment that's near to the center of Prague or within 3 miles from the center, since this is the area you will love to visit during your free time. Transportation in Prague is the best since people living 6 miles from work/school can get there within 35 minutes by public transportation.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

I've never eaten out apart from McDonald's!

What places would you recommend visiting in Prague?

  • Charles Bridge
  • Old town
  • Wenceslas Square
  • The beer gardens
  • Castles in the center of Prague
  • All the museums

Is it good to eat out in Prague? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Eating out from home can be a bit expensive for the students. It's better (cheaper) to cook at home or carry salads.

Is the nightlife good in Prague? Where is good to go?

Yes, it is! There are many clubs to check out. Especially the M1 lounge and Chapeau Rouge. For other kinds of entertainment, there are rooftop clubs like the Duplex.

What advice would you give future students heading to Prague?

Staying indoors can be the usual during the weekdays due to studies and projects. However, it's a must to go out and enjoy the city during weekends, starting from Friday night. Don't forget to convert your currency as soon as you get to Prague in an exchange shop that mentions "No commission". Always pay with CZK cash rather than euros. It's safer.
