Erasmus Experience in Prague, Czech Republic by Maxime
Why did you choose to go to Prague, Czech Republic?
I wanted to discover a new country for my Erasmus year and Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
As a French student I receive money from 3 organisations (app. 700€ per month).
What is the student lifestyle like in Prague?
There are a lot of students here in Prague due to the presence of many Universities. You will meet Czech people as well as foreigners like you.
My life looks like this : classes 5h each day, 4 or 5 days in the week I go out with friends in bars and clubs, and this is a good opportunity to visit the city.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Prague to other students?
I totally recommend the University of Prague to other students!
What is the food like?
Czech food is very good, the most known dish is the "Goulash with dumplings" which is my favorite czech food, but there are countless of local dishes that I didn't try yet.
Prague is kind of a trap for fast food lovers, because it isn't expensive at all.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Prague?
I live in a dormitory (Masarykova).
How much does it cost to live in Prague?
It depends on what you are doing with your money, but I think that it is much cheaper thant to live in a country like France, England, Germany...
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
All courses for foreigners are taught in english. There is the possibility to attend to german, french, czech language courses and maybe much more!
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Prague from your city?
I come from the north east of France, near Strasbourg, so I came by car.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Prague?
Visiting the old town by night is beautiful, but my favorite bars are the Bar no7 and the James Dean bar, then Roxy and Chapeau Rouge are good clubs for students.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Prague?
I didn't try many restaurants, but the Lokal Dhlouaaa is one of my favorites (I recommend you to go there at 12:00 because it is always full for dinner).
