Erasmus Experience in Prague, Czech Republic by Benoit
Why did you choose to go to Prague, Czech Republic?
Because I could? And because between Prague, Hradec Kralove, and Poland, well, Prague came first on my priority list.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
Don't remember, but not much. About 50-100€ par month I'd say.
What is the student lifestyle like in Prague?
A perfect combination between actually studying, partying, going out fro concerts/events, and travelling all over Europe.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Prague to other students?
Why do you ask? Hell yeah, get your asses in there.
What is the food like?
Well, as a French, that might be kind of the low point... But on the other hand, you can always find international or different food in Prague city centre and surroundings if you're in desperate need of something reminding you home.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Prague?
A bit, but not much for a capital city. Pretty much the same than in here.
How much does it cost to live in Prague?
I did spend as much money than I do here, but with waaaaaaay more going out/buying stuff/partying/travelling. And by "way more", I mean, very, very, very much more.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
No, I'm afraid to say that's a freakin' awful language, but Prague is pretty cosmopolitan, and you can get around as long as you have some basic czech notions and speak English. Even outside of Prague, actually.
And yep, there are.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Prague from your city?
Easiest would be plane from Paris, as long as you take your tickets in advance. Most economical was by night train at the time.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Prague?
Nope, I'd recommend to go 3 or 4 nights out. Per week.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Prague?
Oh come on, there are some all around. Just get in the small streets slightly outside of the touristic places, and you'll find cool restaurants, typical or not, with decent prices.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Too long to answer. Find a guide.
And then, when you're done, get in the first suburbs. There are some jewels in there that might not be indicated in the guide.
Then, get out of Prague and visit the rest of the country.
Then, you're in the middle of Europe, and travelling is cheap, so get out and trave abroad!
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Prague in the future?
Don't forget to work sometimes, a bit, the coming back might be hard otherwise. As for the rest, get your asses out of your flat and visit/travel/party whenever you can.
