Erasmus Experience in Portsmouth, United Kingdom by Sara
Why did you choose to go to Portsmouth, United Kingdom?
It is a beautiful city and it has many things that I enjoy like the beach, arcades an escape room place, a lot of stores and it's easy to go anywhere because it has two train stations in the city. The university has the course that I wanted it and it's very well known.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The scholarship is 4 years in my case and the only money I receive is 200 pounds from my mom.
What is the student lifestyle like in Portsmouth?
It can be very calm and relaxed if you want it but if you like to go out at night there are a lot of clubs and pubs for you to go to. Some nights when there are a lot of people out there can be a bit noisy but only if you live close to the clubs like me.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Portsmouth to other students?
Yes, I would. Everyone is extremely nice in school, the city is big but it is very easy to know where you are the beach is close to the center of the city and there is always something to do.
What is the food like?
There are a lot of fast food restaurants but there are also a lot of restaurants that have food made there. I don't go to any of those because I cook at home so I don't really know.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Portsmouth?
At the moment I live in the halls of residence but I am looking for a room and it is difficult for me because of the money but if I had more money it would be extremely easy.
How much does it cost to live in Portsmouth?
Depends on what the price of your house is. I can survive with 200 pounds a month not counting the house but it'll probably be more once I move.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
For me, it was very easy to understand everyone. The university has a school of languages with multiple courses so language won't be a big problem.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Portsmouth from your city?
By bus.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Portsmouth?
Astoria, Popworld, The Fleet and Tiger Tiger.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Portsmouth?
I don't know any.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
There are at least two museums and by the sea, there is a walk that you can do that has some historical facts along the coast.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Portsmouth in the future?
Make sure you're ready to live far away from home and do everything by yourself.
