Why did you choose to go to Pisa, Italy?

There were many reasons behind my decision to come to Pisa. Some of them being a good scholarship offer, a well-reputable institute (SSSUP), professor with a very sound profile and above all a PhD offer in an area that I would like to pursue my studies in.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

Well, the scholarship is for a full-time PhD program in SSSUP; which usually lasts for 3 years. As for the money I get and the expenditure I make here in Pisa; I would say that Pisa is a bit expensive as compared to life in Portugal. Before coming here I was working as a research fellow in IT(Aveiro), Portugal. But of course the amount of money I get here is more than what I was getting in Portugal. So, its not a big deal to make both ends meet here.

What is the student lifestyle like in Pisa?

In a nutshell I would say "Good". Plenty of international students out there. You can interact with them at so many occasions. Easier to find people of your type.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Pisa to other students?

Of course. Its a good chance to see Pisa and get acquainted with Italian lifestyle.

What is the food like?

Eating pizza in Pisa is the best thing to do.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Pisa?

Well, that's pretty tougher to answer at this stage, because I haven't yet figured out my accommodation. Finding a good accommodation at a good cost is harder to find (no doubt). But there are plenty of sites to look for what you need. Friends and colleagues can also help you in this regard.

How much does it cost to live in Pisa?

Rooms usually cost about 300plus Euros (while an apartment is about 500E). Food depends on your choice and your standard. An average per month may be around 100-200E to the maximum, so an average expenditure is around 500E.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?

Every language seems harder initially but people usually do it. Courses are available usually for free.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Pisa from your city?

I came by Ryanair, a cheaper and an easier way to travel across Europe.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Pisa?

I haven't yet figured it out. But I have heard there are good bars to hangout and meet some good people.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Pisa?

So many Turkish Kebab houses, Indian restaurants, Pizzerias and Italian Restaurant in almost every corner of the street. Not a big deal; plenty to eat.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Usually "The Leaning tower of Pisa" is what people come here for. I haven't yet explored the city so I can't say much.

Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Pisa?

Come along with an umbrella and some warm jacket. Its usually very cold at nights. Having a personal bike is the best thing to have here in Pisa.
