Pisa is not just a tower

I bet everytime you hear Pisa, you think about the leaning tower, which is the main monument and the reason why so many people visit this town, however, even knowing Pisa is not a huge city, it has more than that.

A college town

In this town is located the University of Pisa and the academic schools for university students are very prestigious here.

A place that attracts many students from all over the world. It might not be the best place if you are thinking about an Erasmus experience full of crazy nights and parties but if you are looking for a quiet place to stay, Pisa offers everything you need and besides, it is the cheapest town in the Tuscany.

Pisa Tourism

Of course when people arrive in Pisa, the first thing they want to see it is the leaning tower and when they get there, they find a great surprise: this tower is in a square, the Piazza del Duomo. This is an amazing place because next to the tower you can also see the beautiful cathedral or Duomo, the Baptistry and the historic cemetery Camposanto monumentale. Four old monuments placed one next to the other and surrounded by a very green grass.

It is forbidden to walk and sit in some of this green area but there are some spots where you will find people sitting and of course there will be hundreds of people taking funny pictures with the tower.

What I did and I recommend to do if you are thinking about visiting Pisa for just one day, is buying in a supermarket or a mini market (there is one very close to the train station: Pisa Centrale) some bread and ham, cold meat or cheese and make yourself a sandwich so you can enjoy it sitting in this square and in front of the monuments.

The river Arno crosses Pisa and there are some bridges where you can see a beautiful landscape, especially when the sun is giving way to the night.

Even knowing so many people say Pisa has nothing else but the tower, I found the center of this town very charming and beautiful. A perfect place to take a coffee and admire the Palazzo della Carovana, the Cittadella, the little church of Santa Maria della Spina or the Knight's square.

Cheapest way to arrive to the Tuscany

There is an airport in the town of Pisa. This airport is really small but the good news for students and people who like the risk or economic trips is that Ryanair flies here! Cheap flights to get to one of the most beautiful regions in the world. Are you going to miss this opportunity?
