Giulia's experience in Pescara, Italy

How did life in Pescara look like? Would you recommend it?

People in Pescara live well, it's not a very big city so it's quite easy to move around and find places to hang out and meet up with friends. To spend one's free time, there are plenty of sport facilities, shops and bars to have a drink and have fun. Perhaps it only lacks a few cultural things, such as museums, activities, etc.

What is student life in Pescara like?

The student life is very active: the university itself is quite organised, there are lots of students coming from other regions but few foreign ones.

There are a lot of gathering places for the night, both in winter and in summer, and people often hang out, which makes the college scene pretty lively. There are even some initiatives and parties dedicated to university students.

How much does living in Pescara cost?

As far as accommodation is concerned, the price for a flat may vary from approximately 200 euros to 300 euros for an single room, but houses are beautiful and located near the campus. As for life in general, prices at supermarkets are average, as well as those at gyms, and so on. Tuition fees are not too high but they depend on the faculty.

On the contrary, hanging out (eating and drinking mostly) is pretty cheap if you know where to go, and low-priced bars and bistrots are a lot.

Is it hard finding accommodation in Pescara? Could you give some pieces of advice?

A little time must be spent on looking for it and the university isn't too helpful in this case: I suggest you look up the Internet beforehand and then you may have a look at the notice board at the university. Or rather, you may indeed resort to any estate agents (such as soloaffitti etc. ).

How is local food? What are your favourite dishes?

Abruzzese cuisine is excellent and both fish and meat are delectable: of course in Pescara is requested to a greater extent (pasta, fried food, soup), but you cannot refrain from tasting arrosticini and other typical dishes (cheese and eggs balls, etc. ).

What do you think are the must-see places in Pescara

The seafront and the beach are both nice, especially in the summertime. Then the city centre is full of shops, whereas the old town is full of bars and restaurants.

And what about eating in Pescara? Could you mention your favourite places?

For sure, you must order fish at least once should you go out to eat, in one of the many restaurants along the beach or in any more rustic trattoria; Arrosticini ought to be tasted too, perhaps in a place in the hills.

Where would you recommend going out in Pescara?

In the winter I would certainly recommend the area of Corso Manthonè, which is packed with places where to eat, to have a drink or to dance: everybody meets up at "cicchetteries" which sell chupitos for 1 euro.

In the summer people would rather meet up along the seashore where there are cheap places too and nice open-air discos on the beach.

What is great about Pescar is that there are all kinds of nights and places if one can search for the right one.

Any piece of advice to give to future students in Pescara?

Try to meet people the locals or that study here, so that they could take you to the most fashionable and popular places.
