Erasmus Experience in Pavia, Italy by Pia
Why did you choose to go to Pavia, Italy?
Because of its famous university.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I have a scholarship of 480€ (5 months). My flat costs 391€ (Green campus), food (~200€), restaurants (pizza ~8€, coffe ~ 1. 4€), bus ticket (for half a year - 8€), train ticket to Milan (4€).
What is the student lifestyle like in Pavia?
The town is quite small (compared to Milan very small), most of the people living here are students so you have a great chance of meeting someone real quick.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Pavia to other students?
Yes. I think the university is very impressive and the professors are very helpful (Erasmus coordinators not so much). But in Italy, you'll have to get used to the idea that everything takes time.
What is the food like?
Italian. Good and cheap.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Pavia?
No. I was lucky to find it online. There is also a site on FB.
How much does it cost to live in Pavia?
I would say around 700-800€. But you could get through the month with 600€.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Pavia from your city?
I traveled by car (I don't recommend it, because the highway is very expensive). Try using BlaBlaCar or just travel by plane (I recommend landing in Linante or Bergamo) and a train.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
I would definitely recommend you to visit museums inside the university. There is an article that Albert Einstein wrote when he was there.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Pavia in the future?
Don't forget to step your ticket if you go on the bus or on the train.
