Erasmus Experience in Pavia, Italy by Nuna
Why did you choose to go to Pavia, Italy?
I didn't have other choice and I knew that it would be more expensive than I was expecting for the other countries I prefered.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I received until now 1056€ but I think I'll receive more in the next few months but it's a really low budget.
What is the student lifestyle like in Pavia?
Well, in my university course (economics) I don't have so much work to do until january, just a few presentations, all in english because I'm attending only courses of master. On the other hand, I have lots of work in january, 3 exams and one project that is huge.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Pavia to other students?
Yes, but be aware that it's not easy at all! You have to study and attend the lessons because you have to do presentations and participate in the lecture.
What is the food like?
Oh, the food is really good: pizza and pasta everywhere! But it starts to be always the same thing and it can be boring...
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Pavia?
Yes, a lot! I talked at least with 100 people and no one accept me because I'm an Erasmus student and I'm staying here only for 6 months. It is really annoying. I found a room 1 day before I went here and it was a miracle, really!
How much does it cost to live in Pavia?
Around 700€ and in the first month normally it is more expensive.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes, for me it is easier than for other people because I'm portuguese and my language is quite similar to theirs. There are some courses and, actually, I'm attending to one of them to learn the basics of italian (A1) but it costs 190€.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Pavia from your city?
Airplane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Pavia?
To Camillo disco.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
You have the university, the "castello visconteo" and the duomo.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Pavia in the future?
Try to be aware that Erasmus life is not always good. You'll have moments that you wish you're at home with your family and friends and you'll feel lonely sometimes, even if you have so much people with you, because they don't know you as your friends and family at home.
