Experience in Panama City, Panama by Maria
What is it like to live in Panama City? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I believe it depends on the person. There is a lot to discover regarding its culture and beautiful environment, but is has become very expensive due to the country’s problems regarding economy over the past few years. The city is growing and there are many interesting new buildings and places to visit. On the other hand, the weather here is crazy, sometimes the days are sunny and sometimes there is a pouring rain.
What is the student lifestyle like in Panama City?
It is not the best since transportation is not very good in the city. Nevertheless, for those who care about nightlife and partying I must say that will not be a problem since people here love to party.
How much does it cost to live in Panama City?
I can not tell you an average cost, but taking in mind that Panama is a third world country, it is very expensive.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Panama City? Is there any advice you can give?
I do not believe it is difficult, the problem is that the prices are way too high for what the accommodations offer.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
I would say that the gastronomy is amazing. There are so many restaurants that offer food from so many other countries and cultures. Panamanian food is great, but there is a lot of diversity regarding gastronomy.
What places would you recommend visiting in Panama City?
I would recommend Casco Viejo. This place is an amazing tourist site, and it is also where the party life of the city is. This place is a mixture of the old history of Panama and the new generation.
Is it good to eat out in Panama City? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yes! Most of the restaurants in Casco Viejo are amazing, specially those located in rooftops. I have too many favorites, but for now I would say I really like a restaurant called ‘Salvaje’ in Casco Viejo.
Is the nightlife good in Panama City? Where is good to go?
Yes! As I already said, Casco Viejo has the best nightlife.
What advice would you give future students heading to Panama City?
Be prepared to be in a City full of diversity, traffic and fun!
