What is it like to live in Oxford? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Oxford is a small, traditional english city with a huge history surrounding one of the oldest and best Universities in the world. It is easy to find your way around and is full of tourist things to do.

What is the student lifestyle like in Oxford?

For students, Oxford for clubbing is pretty tame however it is the best place for pubs and Cowley road has all the best bars. The free buses for Brookes students makes it easy to get around and there is everything you need in town as far as food shopping and retail is concerned.

How much does it cost to live in Oxford?

Don't expect to have any savings left after living for a even a year in Oxford. At 4 pound a pint and a minimum of 15 quid for a meal out. Last time I went to the cinema it cost me and my friend £10. 25 each for tickets! Stick to Wetherspoons for drinks and you should be okay.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Oxford? Is there any advice you can give?

Housing is the worst. The rent is extortionate for what you get for accommodation and student housing. Plus you need to look really early if you want a chance of getting a good location.

Is it good to eat out in Oxford? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

  • Bill's.
  • Atomic Burger/ Atomic Pizza.
  • The Jericho.
  • Big Society.
  • Leon.

Is the nightlife good in Oxford? Where is good to go?

There are only a few clubs in Oxford that have different student nights for Oxford and Brookes students. But it's a small city so don't expect the same level as London (if you want to go to London then it's 10 quid return on the bus)

What advice would you give future students heading to Oxford?

If you are looking to study at Brookes then consider the cost of living and that the student union is not great. If you want to experience the traditional 'Oxford' life then you can visit the colleges, libraries and local old pubs but remember, a lot of places are closed to non-Oxford students and the public.
