Brighton 2010 - Visit to Oxford

Another place we visited during our stay in Brighton in summer 2010 was Oxford. The suggestion was to go on a weekend trip, without staying overnight, to either Oxford, Cambridge or to a theme park somewhere. Most students wanted to go to Oxford, so in the end we all agreed to do that and set off for Oxford the following Saturday. This time we went by bus and although it's not a long journey, it was much more boring than travelling by train. It took us two hours to get there, but I fell asleep before we even left Brighton. We were lucky this weekend, since the sun was shining brightly in the sky and there wasn't the faintest trace of clouds or rain.

When we arrived, we were shown around the main places of interest in the city. Oxford isn't a very big city, I think it only has around 150, 000 inhabitants, but it's very pretty and has lots of things to see. We visited a 'college', Hertford College, which is one of the best-known in the city and the most-visited by students and tourists alike. The 'colleges' are the buildings belonging to the University of Oxford, one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Similar to our visit to London, after we had visited the most popular tourist places, we had free time to do what we liked in the city, and so we did some shopping and discovered the city at our own pace. When dusk arrived, we got the bus back to Brighton. I was very impressed by Oxford, because it seemed like a city with a lot of personality, different to what I had expected. It's always nice to be pleasantly surprised, and if it's by city visits, then even better.
