Ostrava is a different city. It has an old industry history. Everything there is rough - city, people, air, culture. But exactly this makes the Ostrava special. It now is a student city with many opportunities.

How much does it cost to live in Ostrava?

The monthly rent of the room in centre is about 2500 CZK - what I paid. It's really good price. I got from my parents around 6000 CZK and it's so so enough for rent, food, traveling home, public transport. If I add around 2000 CZK from my job, then it's enough for a good student to live in Ostrava.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ostrava? Is there any advice you can give?

I think it's not difficult. The advice is - first look where is situated your faculty and then find the accommodation. Because university dormitory is situated in one part of Ostrava, but my faculty is in centre - 45 minutes transport from dormitory. If you are interesting in dormitory, do it as soon as it possible.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

I prepared my own food in kitchen. Time to time go for lunch menu to a restaurant (price around 80 CZK). In the centre of Ostrava there is one cantine - but not good in my opinion. At the dormitory in Poruba is another school cantine, I've never been there but heard it's good.

What places would you recommend visiting in Ostrava?

In the center of Ostrava you have many opportunities. Tower of cityhall, the World of Miniatures, few good clubs and of course the famous Stodolní street (pubs and bar in every door). Ostrava is an industry city, so you should visit Vítkovice - the old factory - now it's the place for the best known music festival Colours of Ostrava.

It's good, but of course always little bit more expensive than at home. Anyway - La petite - is a french bistro/restaurant with good food.

Is the nightlife good in Ostrava? Where is good to go?

For all visitors the best choice for nightlife is Stodolní street. But If you prefer rock club I can recommend you Barrák or hardcore club PlanB. Also time to time is good visit Cooltour. There are often electro-swing-dancing party.
