Café No. 33: Norwich's best brunch spot
If you’ve read my last article (link here), you’ll know that I’ve just spent a couple of days in Norwich, celebrating the graduation of one of my close friends. This was, of course, a very special occasion, and we partied accordingly, but the morning after, we certainly felt a little worse for wear. To help our bodies recover, we decided to treat ourselves to brunch at Café No. 33, a charming little dining spot in the town centre. It was the first time I’d ever been, but I’m sure it won’t be the last. Read on to find out why I loved it!
The food
There is no better hangover remedy, in my opinion, than a nourishing breakfast. Café No. 33 had a whole variety of meals on offer, all tempting and very reasonably priced. I deliberated quite a lot over my order – you know how it is when everything looks equally delicious – but eventually settled on a stack of pancakes, topped with maple syrup, berries, and icing sugar. I’m always a little skeptical when I choose this dish – my friend and I were, in fact, reminiscing about some awful pancakes we once bought, which tasted more like washing up liquid than anything else – but Café No. 33 absolutely hit the nail on the head! Not only was my breakfast tasty and melt-in-the-mouth, but also it was meticulously presented.
My friends went for Salmon Benedict (Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon), and a sausage sandwich. We were pleasantly surprised by the large portion sizes, and were all so famished by the time our food arrived that there was complete silence round the table as we tucked in!
The staff
We were also most impressed by the kindness of the staff. Everyone working at the café was full of energy, and attentive to our every need. There was a bit of a mix-up in the kitchen, so our food took slightly longer than it should have, but to make up for this, we were very kindly given free drinks!
The interior decoration
Looks aren’t everything, but it’s always nice to eat in a pretty place. Café No. 33 certainly was pleasing to the eye, with its Edison-style light bulbs, neatly-arranged jars of loose tea, and abstract artwork, some of which was available to buy. The whole place had a pretty ‘environmental indie hipster’ vibe to it (for want of a better term), with its light-wood tables, leafy plants, and rows of reusable water bottles.
Norwich’s best brunch spot?
If you’re ever in the centre of Norwich, looking for somewhere to enjoy your first meal of the day, Café No. 33 is the place to head. There are so many enticing options to choose from, and with vegetarian and vegan meals available too, there is something on the menu for everyone. Get down there early to bag a good spot – we were lucky today, but you’ll often have to wait around a bit for a table – or alternatively make use of the café’s takeaway service. Whether you eat in or out, have a fabulous brunch, and if in doubt, go for the pancakes!
