Experience in Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom by Oliver
What is it like to live in Newcastle Upon Tyne? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Honestly, I think Newcastle is one of the most desirable places to live in the UK. I feel it is often over-looked as a beautiful city by its reputation as a really good night out. The Quayside and Grey Street are stunning. I've lived in Newcastle since I was a lad and I'm very proud to call it home.
What is the student lifestyle like in Newcastle Upon Tyne?
I am not a student here, I live here. However, I always enjoy coming back for Christmas and Summer to Newcastle because the city is so vibrant and the night life like the Diamond Strip is easily the most fun in the UK.
How much does it cost to live in Newcastle Upon Tyne?
I wouldn't know, however I have friends who say it is very reasonable.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Newcastle Upon Tyne? Is there any advice you can give?
I wouldn't know, sorry.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Proper Geordie Fish and Chips with a Newcastle Brown Ale, you can't go wrong.
What places would you recommend visiting in Newcastle Upon Tyne?
The city centre, Grey Street, the Quay side of course. However, you need to go to Tyne Bar near to Manors Metro Station and Stepney Bank Stables. It's got a great retro industrial look, there's loads of quality gig venues there and pubs. That area is the Camden of the North. Take a little trip on the metro to Tynemouth and North Shields, where I live, the Coast on a sunny day is stunning.
Is it good to eat out in Newcastle Upon Tyne? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Definitely - it depends on what sort of place you are looking for of course. There are cheap takeaways all up to the mint Botanist dome at Grey's Monument. Personally, I like all the restaurants in the Gate, especially Zazas.
Is the nightlife good in Newcastle Upon Tyne? Where is good to go?
Amazing. Second to no city in the UK, easily. You've got to go to D and P, three trebs Vodka for £6. Empress does similar deals and they're only pre-bars. The clubs are numerous from Digital Utopiar, Rustys, Floritas, Bijoux and House of Smith. I could literally write about the night life for hours. Highlight is definitely the atmosphere, all the club's are in one spot, giving it a vibrant and energetic place to be.
What advice would you give future students heading to Newcastle Upon Tyne?
Come to Newcastle, you'll regret not coming!
